Recommend a good adoption detective or Private Investigator in NYC or LI?

My best friend is searching for his birth family in New York. Can someone recommend a good private investigator or adoption detective. He was born 1970.

What kind of fees do private investigators in the NYC area charge?

I'm looking to work with a pi, but i'm clueless as to what it would or should cost. anyone have some information?

When I used one, he charged $50 per hour and I have to give him a $500 retainer. However, that was 10 years ago, so I imagine the cost has greatly increased. He totally found out what I needed to know, though, so it was worth it.

BTW, he was based in Queens.
