Three years may not be enough. However it depends on the type of cancer you have and the company you apply to. I work in Connecticut as an insurance agent and our Blue Cross has the following guidelines:

Most cancers have a minimum wait of 10 years.
Breast cancer has a minimum wait of 5 years.
Prostate cancer has a minimum wait of 5 years.
Some skin cancers have a minimum wait of 1 year.
Basal cell has a minimum wait of 6 months.

You may want to check with your local Blue Cross and/or the other companies that offer health insurance in your area.

The link below has a listing of insurance department websites for each state. You should be able to find a list of companies that offer health insurance in your area by visiting the insurance department website.

Can expats returning to America get health insurance...

New postby Twyla » 22 Oct 2012, 14:52

Can expats returning to America get health insurance coverage for preexisting conditions?

In my case I have type 1 diabetes. If I live abroad(Sweden for example) and later return to America, will I have to wait 1 year before I can qualify for coverage diabetes related health care expenses. Assuming I have a job that offers good to health insurance benefits.
Assuming I maintain "credible coverage" overseas. Like having employer supplied private insurance benefits and/or national insurance.

You need to maintain "creditable coverage" while you are abroad. See link below for more information. Unless you are former military or federal employee, I see two options:
1) Cobra
2) A state run, high risk insurance pool.
The problem with both options, other than the cost, is that only emergency services will be covered outside of the US. So you may need an international travel medical policy also. See the second link. The travel policy will not cover preexisting conditions, or meet the definition of creditable coverage (my opinion).
What I don't know is, how will you obtain your meds while overseas? Pay for them out of pocket, or can you have them mailed to you?
Happy travels.

Can my grandma get health insurance now that her husband has passed?

My grandfather recently passed away and my grandma had insurance through him at his job. Can she get health benefits now that she is on her own? And is there a way to see if he had life insurance. Is there a number to call?

Your grandmother, depending on the size of the employer, has rights to 36 months of COBRA coverage (as long as the employer has had more than 20 employees -full and part time-)

Depending on the state she lives in will determine how much "state continuation" if available she has. It depends how the employer is set up with the Group Health Insurance.

I would have your grandmother contact his employer and tell them she is interested in continuation. She will continue on with the same benefits she had when your grandfather was alive.

Another possibility is www.goldenrule.com, or www.horizonbenefits.com (not sure of this one) If you go go www.unitedhealthgroup.com, you may find links to those two brands. They are for individual coverage and the site should be able to help you determine if it is available in your state.

How can I get health insurance for myself and family and pay for it as business expense without employees?

I'm a successful part time entrepreneur in California, but I maintain my day job because of the group health insurance they offer. I'd like to cut the apron string and go out completely on my own, but the insurance situation holds these plans hostage.

I don't want to buy private health insurance, I would like to structure my one man business so that I can easily purchase group health insurance for myself and family. I'd like to purchase group insurance as opposed to private insurance so that I don't have to deal with preexisting conditions and riders, etc. Since I'm still a sole proprietor, I have plenty of leeway in regards to business structure, and I'm willing to change whatever is necessary to get the best deal possible.

How can I get health insurance for myself and family and pay for it as business expense without employees?

In order to get group coverage you must have a minimum of four employees and have 75% participation to qualify.

How can I get health insurance in WA state?

New postby Stephany » 22 Oct 2012, 14:52

I am 27. I am currently not working and have money saved. I am going to need to get a hearing evaluation at University of WA and it will cost 900 dollars without health coverage. I have never bought health insurance before, can I pay it month to month? Or pay it for one month, to get my evaluation covered and then cancel it?

Ms. Obsidianflowers,

Your concept of insurance is misguided. Purchasing "insurance" to cover a known upcoming health expense and then canceling the insurance right after the company pays for the procedure is not the way health insurance works. Insurance is purchased to cover unexpected accidents or illness.

What you are proposing is, pure and simple, cheating the people who do buy and pay for health insurance.

How will filing bankruptcy affect my ability to get health..

How will filing bankruptcy affect my ability to get health insurance?

My financial situation is such that I may need to file bankruptcy. I am starting a new job and as it is a small company I may need to get health insurance on my own instead of through the company and the employer will reimburse me for a portion. I am wondering how filing Chapter 7 Bankruptcy will affect this, if at all. Any assistance would be VERY helpful. Thank you!

How do you get health insurance ONLY for kids, not adding on to parent's plan?

I don't qualify for CHIP. My work insurance is great for singles, ok for married couples, terrible for families. We had insurance with Texas Children's Hospital for our kids and it was fantastic. Great coverage for low rates. So of course they are stopping offering the plan. I keep going to rate quote sites, but they demand I be on the plan. Can't you just insure your kids?

Blue Cross and Blue Shield offers individual policies for children.

If you are lower-income, it is possible that you and your kids or maybe just your kids could be covered through a state program. Visit the link below, which takes you to the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services. In section 1 click on your state, and in section 2 click on "State Medical Assistance Office," leaving the rest of the sections blank. This will display the Medicaid office for your state, which should be able to advise you on available health insurance programs and eligibility requirements.

If you need to compare prices (which I'm sure you do) check out the link below.
