Airplane Accident?

New postby Lesia » 06 Jun 2009, 07:35

Ok on the National Geographic i saw this airplane show about this flight that somehow they went too high and everyone put the air mask things on,but they all passed out except one flight attendent stayed awake a little longer and tried to save the plane but it crashed.

Does anyone know what flight that was or who the flight attendent was?

On air crash investigation?

i know the one you are talking about- Helios Airways Flight 522.

the plane didnt go too high, the pilot did not turn the presurization on...so no fresh air to breathe.

go to Wikipedia and type in 'flight 522'.

it comes up straight away

Have you ever been in an airplane accident?

New postby Soraya » 06 Jun 2009, 07:35

I was flying home from Ohio last week, and we hit some pretty rough turbulance. The lady sitting next to me said "Oh jeeze - one accident's enough for me." I didn't really get what she meant. So I have been wondering: is it common or something to have been in an airplane accident.

Not necessarily an accident, but my husband and I were flying home from our honeymoon, and the plane was a DC8 (which they don't use anymore for passengers). One of the engines failed about 1/2 hour into the flight. A DC8 only has 2 engines. We had to turn around, fly back to the Miami airport and had an emergency landing. I didn't get scared until we were told to assume a crash position on landing, and when we got on the ground I saw all the rescue equipment following the plane down the runway. THAT'S when I got scared. The landing was fine, w/o incident, everyone de-planed and I believe we took a flight the next morning.

Did the Beastie Boys really get in an airplane accident?

New postby Kandra » 06 Jun 2009, 07:35

My brother was saying how he had heard that they were in a crash and Mix Master Mike was killed and the others in critical condition.
I haven't personally heard anything on the news, though.
Anybody know whether it's true or false?

I don't think it's true.
There's nothing online about it, that i've seen either.

Our 17 year son was killed in an airplane accident....

New postby Nicolle » 06 Jun 2009, 07:35

Our 17 year son was killed in an airplane accident. Received small settlement from insurance, is that taxable?

The Insurance policy is from the flight school of aircraft involved in accident. Small settlement of $100,000., after attorney fees from civil suit (which was dropped), has brought that down to half which was received. We are wondering if we need to paid state or federal taxes on settlement, and if so, on what figure. Any information would greatly be appreciated, Thank you.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

You mean...your attorney takes about half of what you could have gotten on your own (the full $100,000) without an attorney, and your attorney can't give you this answer.

Oh. I bet he could for another 'small fee'

If you son was flying as a student or a newly licensed low time pilot, and depending on what state you are in, the flight school's insurnce should have been very up-front and offered it all up on the table from the get-go.
