Southwest Airlines Visa Signature Credit Card Fee?

New postby Guy » 25 Oct 2012, 04:36

I received an email from Southwest Airlines for a promotion of 16 rapid rewards credits if I get there Visa Signature credit card. They have an annual fee of $59. My question is can I sign up for the credit card, pay the $59 of course, receive the rapid rewards credits, and cancel it, or do I have to keep it for a certain time?

First, it is a matter of you getting approved based on credit.

Next, you'd get their reward points as they say but check their rules. Usually, once rewards are credited, you have it regardless of you cancelling your credit card account in the future.

However, your credit score may be affected unless you dont care. Southwest's credit card company might be happy with your $59 and let you go.

What is the minimum credit score required to be approved for a Southwest Rapid Rewards Visa?

Or any other high-demand credit cards, like American Airlines, Amazon, etc.? I know you can get Orchard Bank and other low-demand cards easily. Thanks.

The rule of thumb is most of those cards require a score above 700, they require excellent credit, they also look at other factors as well, amount of outstanding revolving credit, history of collection activities, etc..

Southwest Visa Rapid Rewards question (earning reward dollars).?

Do you earn reward dollars if you pay off the card balance prior to the bill closing date?
For example, you spend $25 on Jan 5th using your card, but pay the balance off 3 days later. Do you earn the reward dollars still or does the balance need to show on the statement?

With most credit cards (not sure about this particular one), rewards are based on the amount purchased, not the balance shown on statements.

However, if you return something, then the purchase does not count.

What's the catch? (free flight with first purchase on Southwest Airlines Chase Visa)?

What's the catch with this deal? I understand there's an annual fee, but is there anything else that makes this not worth it? Do you have to have REALLY good credit?

There are blackout dates. I have 3 southwest visa cards and get 4 or 5 free tickets a year just from using the cards. I have only had a few times I couldnt get tickets when I wanted them. High travel times like spring break I was not able to use my vouchers.
