Erb palsy

Did your baby have erb's palsy when born?

New postby Denis » 22 Oct 2012, 07:45

My lil boy was born on 14th and was quite big, he got distressed and had to be resuscitated. point is when they pulled him out they must have hurt him cause now he can't move his right arm-but can grip my finger with his fingers. as he was born friday night the physiotherapists were off for the weekend so i only got an appointment today to take it to get checked out. my midwife said it looks dislocated but my notes say erb's palsy. did ur baby have this and how is it now? can it have serious long term damage and can the delay in them seeing him make it worse? i'm really worried and would like to hear from anyone who has experienced this.thanks
we went to the physio today and she said it looked good as his grip is improving so it is not really seriously damaged, she said she was hopeful that it would be fine by 3 months, showed me lots of stretches and massages to do to him and refered him to a child physio to see every couple of weeks.

Shoulder dystocia is a synonym for Erb's palsy

A lot of his prognosis depends upon whether he was stretched or torn.

Yes the damage can be very serious

Physiotherapy and a specialist is what you can do now.

Suggest contacting an injury lawyer

That is great news! I am so happy for your son! I thought the gripping was a very good sign.

Can anybody please tell me about best treatment for Erb's palsy?

My 7 year old son is suffering from left arm erb's palsy. Is there any way of correcting the nerve defect?
