Seriously. Why all the hype about the tiny chuck of the population that believes he's the "chosen-one"? I doubt many of you Obama-nut haters actually even KNOW any of these fanatics that supposedly believe in the "almighty" Obama, and it's not like there's churches our there who go around preaching "glory be" to Obama, etc. etc. etc.
Can anyone give a good reason for making a big stink about this itty-bitty group of "misguided" souls? It's no different than all the other things people believe that we define as far-reaching. Think of all the tribes in faraway lands who believe in magic spells & rites of passage etc.; or think of all the people in here in America who believe OTHER "far-fetched things". like that black people are evil (there are by waaay far more racists than there are Obama-worshipers), or that Buddhists & all other non-Christians are going to hell, or that 13 is an unlucky number. Why isn't anyone nitpicking THESE people in the media? And what about people who are ignorant in other/nonspiritual ways - like not using birth control when they're broke, diseased, single, mentally ill and/or have 5 other kids they can't keep up with.
Big deal if some ppl have grandiose ideas about Obama's significance; I can see where it could personally impact you if your brothers/sisters or wife/kids diverged with your views to this big of an extent, but we're talking about an anonymous group of people who have over-magnified ideals of divine intervention. these are ppl who aren't even a part of your "circle," and it's not like they're animal-abusers, child-molesters, or devil-worshipers.
If you're concerned that they are ignorantly misleading themselves to the detriment of being LET DOWN in some way-shape-form, or that they're believing in "false gods" to the detriment of their spiritual health, then let that be their own problem. And don't be so quick to judge the ultimate fate of their spritual lives - some of them may just be overwhelmed with elation right now & they'll eventually come to reconcile their high regard for Obama & their newfound sense of hope with their innermost spiritual beliefs and religous convictions.
My God, even if their views are deviant & over-zelous, at least their admiration and respect for our new president isn't unfounded. Even though nothing of real political significance has unfolded at this point, the simple "blessing" (don't read too much into the terminology) of having a truly *good person* (someone who at least BELIEVES in and plans to act on alleviating human suffering, in any small way) be in charge of our country is truly something to appreciate. The man is truly a good soul - and he's a good force in society; people are inspired and hopeful because of him (regardless of whether you think they have good reason), and if you have any decency of character, you'd be happy for them.
Thank you, "Marcia B." - qood question. no, I'm not one of them! Meaning, I'm not a fanatic. But I think Obama is a good person & I have a positive outlook on what he'll do. I'm just questioning the mentality behind all the "hate" for the people who go overboard. their enthusiasm (no matter how insane); why is it a big whopping deal to some people? Why don't you just be glad YOU have something "better" to believe in, and just be thankful these people aren't affecting YOUR life?
