Cut to the chase. if you are just now 18, you likely dont have any credit. What credit you do have is so new that yor credit history is very limited. Its highly likely you will need a cosigner to get a loan. So you may want to think about who in your family has enough faith in you to put their own credit on the line. A cosigner helps establish your credit, but it also can be a hit to theirs. So if you ask, be aware and respectful of that fact.

your best bet is to start with getting a preapproval. Go to an online source like eloan.com, lendingtree.com, capitalone.com, roadloans.com or drivetime.com. take note that Drive and Road are both typicaly "second chance" lenders. They loan to people who have a hard time getting financing elsewhere. Their rates are very high, so only use them as a next-to-last resort.

If you can get preapproved, then you will know exactly what you r budget is and payments. that leaves you free to find the right car within your budget.

Lastly, avoid those 'buy here pay here' lots if at all possible. They are THE last resort for people who need cars, and have no credit or bad credit. The cars are marginal, and the interest is the maximum allowed. The worst part is, if you make every payment on time, you are not getting the benefit of improved credit score. Most of them do not report to credit agencies. BUT, if you get the car reposessed, it goes on your bureau immediately - the collection agency sees to that.

Take your time, shop smart, and get your loan BEFORE hunting for the car

No such thing as yahoo finance for payment. yahoo finance is a news site for financial issues.

Nobody is going to refinance your truck. You probably owe more on the loan than the truck is worth. No bank or finance company is going to give you a loan for more than the value of the vehicle.

If they do the terms of the loan will probably be worse than you have right now.
