How to remove 'Goo Gone' stain from unfinished hardwood floor?

I recently purchased a house with newly installed but unfinished hardwood floors. The stairs were covered in gooey making tape. I made the mistake of using goo gone on them, which worked great to get rid of the sticky mess, but left behind a stain in the wood (they look wet where the goo gone was applied). I'm afraid when I stain them those spots will be discolored or not take the stain at all since goo gone is a petroleum base. Any ideas on how to get rid of this greatly appreciated!

You'll probably have to sand it out. (Be thankful it's UNfinished wood.) In the future if you have sticky stuff that needs to be removed try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I've used it to get sticky residue off unfinished wood. I've never had a problem with it.

Oak has traditionally been the most widely used because it was really available.

The type depends much on your dacor:

Oak - traditional/country
Maple - modern or contemporary
Bamboo - contemporary (green)
Dark Cherry - formal
Light Cherry - traditional or contemporary
Teak or hickory - rustic

Wide plank is more rustic, thin plank is more traditional or modern.

Drywall "mud" dust and old unfinished hardwood floor.?

How do you get the drywall "mud" dust off of old, unfinished hardwood floors so they can be sanded and refinished? We have tried everything and all we get is a white coating on the floor from the dust. Do we even have to worry about getting it up or will the floor sander do the job for us? We are refurbishing an 80 year old home and this is our one and only question.
I can't count the number of times we have used the Shop Vac on these floors.LOL! We just have SO much puttying and sanding that we can't get it all up.

Believe me, when you start sanding that floor, the "mud dust" will be a distant memory and will seem miniscule compared to the sawdust you get from sanding.
On a lighter note though, you will notice that as soon as you sand the wood, all the garbage on the surface will get ground off and the "fresh" wood look will appear. It will be dull at first because of all the sawdust, but once it's washed and waxed/polyurethaned, it'll shine like new.
Just make sure that before you put any coating material on it, that you have washed it good at least 4 or 5 times. This of course follows 7-10 sweepings. Otherwise, you'll trap the sawdust in the coating and it will always be dull or dusty looking.

My floors are unfinished hardwood in part of the house and they look very dry. Is there a product I can apply to add some shine to them, such as an oil? I have been sweeping often and mopping with Murphy's Oil Soap. I live in a rental so I don't want to have them refinished.

Don't use it, mineral spirits can stain the floor. use a de-natured alcohol, and sand before finishing

What's the best way to really clean unfinished hardwood floors? I know we can't use any of the hardwood floor cleaners or Murphy's b/c those are for finished woods. All i do is sweep my unfinished floor but b/c we're doing construction on our house, dust is everywhere and sweeping it isn't getting everything. Can i use a damp mop or is there product our there for unfinished hardwood floor?
I just read in a previous question that someone recommended Bona. I'll go look for that - any other suggestions would be great. thanks!

DO NOT USE ANY LIQUID PRODUCTS on unfinished wood , it will make the grain raise and you will have to re-sand it......I suggest you use a dust mop until you finish them........
