Queen is etxremely misinformed. NAFTA has actually helped Mexico more than it's helped ANY of the beginner trading partners. More jobs, cheaper goods, etc... the FIXED economy that existed pre-1994 kept jobs out, high priced goods in, and trade off limits. not only that, the Yucatan penninsula is one of the most impoverished regions in all of Mexico. Life expectancy is the highest in Baja California and in Nuevo leon (Monterrey's state)
Mexico:
Life expectancy at birth:
total population: 75.84 years
male: 73.05 years
female: 78.78 years (2008 est.) ]
United States
Life expectancy at birth:
total population: 78.14 years
male: 75.29 years
female: 81.13 years (2008 est.)
Mexico is a developing economy... it's definitely a lot more developed than most LatinAmerican countries and almost all African nations, but it nevertheless falls into the category of developing... and with this category you usually have lower life expectancies. Healthcare in Mexico can be world class, but still lack in a lot of areas that carry people into their 80's, 90's and 100's (alzheimwer's experts, gerriatricians, and other specialists do exist in Mexico, but are not as readily available as in the U.S.) Moreover, The money that is needed to keep someone well and healthy into old age isn't as plentiful in the Mexico as in the U.S.
Still... Mexico's life expectancy isn't that bad.... compared to Russia's (what someone would consider a 'good' economy)
RUSSIA
Life expectancy at birth:
total population: 65.94 years
male: 59.19 years
female: 73.1 years (2008 est.)
