Pulmicort has a steriod in it and I am diabetic and it does affect my blood sugars, so yes I think it could. If it is causing you to become "borderline" then I think maybe you were before "borderline", keep an eye on it.

Steroid Inhaler (Pulmicort) for my wheezy 6 month old?

New postby Janise » 16 Feb 2011, 02:06

My son is a Preemie and gets wheezy/tight-chested with the slightest cough. I use Albuterol with a nebulizer when things get bad, but the doctor just prescribed a daily steroid inhaler to use all winter as prevention against the wheezing. I am very hesitant to use such a strong medicine for my baby (especially daily). Do any of you have experience with this, or know of any alternative/homeopathic solutions?

Your baby was a premie, predisposed to more conditions than fullterm babies. I guess your doctor prescribed that medication with the help of a pediatric pulmonologist. My experience with Pulmicort has been with older children. Ask again your doctor about the medication.
Definitively, no alternative/homeopathic medicine should be given to your baby.

You should not feel anything. Here is the instructions. Remember to rinse your mouth after using it

Not sure why the thumbs down. Rinsing the mouth is recommended after any steriod inhaler to prevent oral thrush.

Pulmicort is most commonly used in preemies ALL the time with no problems. Its a very very good preventive medication to use. And as far as I'm concerned safer than Albuterol. Its not that strong either. If someone comes on and suggests any homeopatic medications and you try them please remember, those HAVE NOT been tested on cbhildren and proven safe Pulmicort has been. Certain alternatives can be fatal. So as a mother and a Respiratory Therapist I would never give my children something that isn't proven safe. I've seen children die from these things. Ultimately its up to you but this is my advice.
