Embryonic Stem Cells vs. Umbilical Cord Stem Cells. Are you for or against one, the other, or both?

For the record: I'm for Umbilical Cord Stem Cells but against Embryonic Stem Cells.

This question will go into voting.

My life was saved by cord blood. I am a leukemia patient, and my stem cell transplant (the medically accurate term for a bone marrow transplant) was done last year using cord blood.

It is donated after a live healthy birth. There is no reason to be against cord blood unless you are against stem cells altogher for some unknown reason.

Embryonic.... given that they now can extract the cells without damaging the embryo, I dont see a problem. Beyond that, it is a fact that IVF and abortion are legal and that the by products of it get thrown in the trash. I would rather make these lives that no one wanted mean something. But, most people's problem is the fear of the possibility of human farming, or women being paid for their embryos or fetus.

Stem cell created from umbilical cord blood can help muscular dystrophy?

As i know, umbilical cord blood can created stem cell that can be cure to many disease. it is because it can combine with other stem cell without problem. so if muscular dystrophy patient (which is do not have dystrophine because their stem cell can't create dystrophine in their body) receive umbilical cord blood stem cell, would the cell develop the dystrophine? if it true, i think it would be great to muscular dystrophy patient like me. sorry if my english was bad.

You would need to talk to this person's doctors. They are the ones who can talk to you about whether or not there are any trials currently for this. Also, the cord blood would have to be a match to the person. With stem cell transplants (bone marrow transplant) it is matched by Human Leukocyte Antigen. I dont know if thats how it would be matched for kidney treatment or of it would be a blood match or dna match.

Is it possible to make an identical twin of my baby from her umbilical cord blood stem cells?

I would never want to do this, but I'm wondering if it is possible.

Which is why people will keep their babies stem cells in the future...so that they can be used to create a new kidney or a new heart... pick ur part no more rejections for transplants...

So long as the cord blood is donated, sure. The problem is, many doctors charge a fee to collect it, so it all goes to waste. The issue isn't with using stem cells but destroying what they consider a life in order to get them.
