Does anyone know if walk in bath tubs are covered under medicare?

My mother in law is on disability and medicare. I think she would truly benefit from one of these. Does anyone know? Even if you have any information on a reputable company I would be greatly appreciative. Thank you!

If her doc will rx one, it can be. It will have to be pre approved which will require letters and cooperation from the doctor.

I would look towards a med supply company for this. I want to think there should be companies that do this for medicare patients like the wheel chair companies and stuff? Your doc or social worker should be able to help you find a company, being that medicare will probably only work with certain providers.

With the walk in tubs you get what you pay for. Unfortunately a lot of people/plumbers want them and they shop on the Internet to find the cheapest ones, only to find out they don't hold water and if they do its not for long. There is a huge lawsuit against a company right now that the tub never held water since day one, but you could buy it uninstalled for between $4,000 - $6,000 depending on the model.
Luxury Bath carries a high end one with a lifetime warranty. One of the neat things about Luxury Bath is all of there product contain Microban. Microban is a antimicrobial product that kills mold and mildew.

I'm not sure there is an average. Ours is about 400 square feet, which is perhaps a little larger than most.

If you are walking along Queen Street West, you'll be the most normally dressed person there! If you are wandereing Yorkville, not so much. If you are on Yonge Street between Front and Dundas, no one will even notice you. If you are lounging against the concrete pillars of the Gardiner expressway you'll be somehwat over dressed. If you are planning a sashay down Bloor from Holt Renfrew to the Museum, then do be sure that your bathrobe is a designer label, knock offs are so declasse. Pinstripes are preferred for bathrobes on Bay Street.

If this was a serious question then wear normal clothes, like pants and shirts and shoes. Like you do everywhere else.

How much are those walk-in bath tubs that Ed McMahon advertises on TV?

The tub is by a company called Premiere. They have a little door; you step in, sit down and then take a shower or fill it up for a nice whirlpool bath. I have called for the consumer info but it didn't list any prices. We will probably buy a house this spring so I am not ready to be contacted by one of their salesman. I want to hear from people who have actually had one of these installed. Answer with the most details win! Good links will also sway me. Thanks!

Premier is the Ed McMahon company. They use a decent quality tub, but they are extremely high priced and the sales people they send out are very high pressure. Their base price is around $15,000 going up to about $ 30,000.
There are quite a few company's that have a lifetime warranty on the seal, however there are many that are junk. There's a huge lawsuit going on now where a company was selling them on E-bay and sold Millions of dollars worth and they never held water from day one!
I would recommend looking into Luxury Bath if there's one in your area. www.luxurybath.com or 1-800- A NEW TUB. They have a really high quality tub at a reasonable price. The seal has a lifetime warranty, and if it goes bad they even cover the labor to replace it.

Anyone out there with a walk-in bath tub?

New postby Tonisha » 29 Oct 2012, 17:15

I have arthritis of the low back, hips and knees. Will have knee replacement next year, but cannot do it sooner due to needing someone to be with me the first week post-op. My job requires me to be on my feet almost continually. I am hoping a walk-in bath tub with jets will give me enough relief to allow me to continue to work. Someone out there who has had one for a while that can tell me if they are worth the money? I don't have a lot, but will take out a loan for one if they can help.

It take away the some of the value of my home?

Reducing a bath/shower to just a shower may reduce the value of your house to an inspector but what counts is what is the value to the buyer. some people would like a stand up shower to a bath/shower so it is up to the buyer as to what it is worth. To some people it doesnt matter.
