Does anyone know if walk in bath tubs are covered under medicare?
My mother in law is on disability and medicare. I think she would truly benefit from one of these. Does anyone know? Even if you have any information on a reputable company I would be greatly appreciative. Thank you!

If her doc will rx one, it can be. It will have to be pre approved which will require letters and cooperation from the doctor.
I would look towards a med supply company for this. I want to think there should be companies that do this for medicare patients like the wheel chair companies and stuff? Your doc or social worker should be able to help you find a company, being that medicare will probably only work with certain providers.

I recently seen a commercial for a walk-in tub. I guess the idea behind it, is for elderly or people with back problems, etc. - - For safety purposes, they can just walk into the tub instead of climbing in and out. Well when thinking about it all, this means that they would have to run the water once inside and then wait to the water drains entirely before getting out. Maybe if they included a quick drain this would be a good idea, but until they do - - it seems like more of a hassle.

In a lot of long term hospitals and hospitals themselves they have the walk in tubs and I think it's great they are now making available to the general public.
I have personally used them to help people get their bath or shower since most of them come with a detachable (hand held) shower head.
The sides are very sturdy and I've never encountered a leak of any sort. You are correct they have to sit and wait for the water to fill up, but it doesn't take that long nor does it take long for the water to drain out. Plus you can use the shower head while the tub is filling up. It really takes no longer to fill up than a soaking tub, lets put it that way and the drains are a little larger.

What is the fair market value of a used Premier Easybathe walk in tub.?
I want to donate the Easybathe walk-in tub made by Premier, but require an appraised value for tax purposes.

Determining the Fair Market Value (FMV) of an item that you wish to donate is an issue that has brought much anguish to those that were for years accustom to guessing or fudging. That is why the IRS has required it. So what can you do? First you could hire an appraiser, which is likely to cost more than the resulting reduction in tax. Secondly you could search the web or newspapers for a similar item listed for sale. Next you could visit all of the thrift stores in your area to determine what they would be selling a similar item for. In the end this is more work than it is worth. Lastly you could just give it to a charity and relish in the idea that you may be helping some one, then take a deduction small enough that it will not cause you any grief if it were disallowed. Normally something like 10 to 20% of the original value with a picture to show that it was in good shape and the original receipt will work.
