How can I go about giving textual data a visual representation?

I steward 23,000 acres of land. I have grazing and agricultural permits, outfitters, a gravel operation, and some inactive tracts. It's beginning to get confusing as to what is happening and where. I have tons of paper files that details everything I'm doing with the lands. What I need is a way to give all that data a visual representation.(ie> a map with various layers.perhaps a red boundary that outlines my land, brown boundary around my grazing permits, green boundary around my agricultural permits, another color around my unused lands, etc.get the idea?).so I can instantly know at a glance which lands are doing what and which lands are inactive. Some other information I'd like to tie in are things like Environmental conditions, planned site reviews and compliance studies.perhaps even soil quality indicators.all on the same map. I truly hope there is someone out there who can point me in the right direction.

You could do it by coloring a map.

Or you could plot a pie chart of which areas are being used for what

Or you could have a spreadsheet that has fields for each area and you could update month on changes.

Usually with a graph generated by Microsoft Excel and embedded in Microsoft Powerpoint.
