Retractible Awning

Retractible Awning - Good Investment?

New postby Lorrie » 27 Oct 2012, 15:33

We live in the pacific northwest and considering our options for covering our patio. Since it rains here half the year and we still like to bbq - we need to find a way to enjoy our patio when it's raining. Are there any other options besides awning that would be good? Or is awning a good investment?

Yes, there are other options. An awning will only last so long in your type of weather. The material will soon break down under rain etc. One other option is a Pergola. The cost may be more , but they last a long time. I live in Michigan , and made the mistake of buying an awning for my deck. Well , after rain , wind , snow etc ,, the material came apart. A pergola is a much better choice. Check on a store like Menards , Home Depot, Lowes etc. They have many choices on size , color. It may cost more , but well worth it. Google PERGOLA to see examples. There basically a wood frame structure with a industrial plastic / vinyl roof. Many different varieties to choose from. Good luck.
