Color Toners

What Is A Hair Color Toner And What Does It Do, Exactly?

New postby Gail » 29 Oct 2012, 09:12

Does a toner add the color back to your previously dyed/highlighted hair, let's just say, after 2 or 3 weeks of shamppoing? That is what some of my friends told me, but I am not so sure myself. If this is the case, then I guess it will save me one less trip to the hair salon. Are all toners the same by the way and how do you choose the right one if they're different?

What color/toner should I use after bleaching my hair to...

New postby Farah » 29 Oct 2012, 09:12

What color/toner should I use after bleaching my hair to get a white blonde color?

My hair was already a very light blonde, but I bleached my hair this Sunday (24th) I used Prism Lites violet bleach and Clairol Kaleidocolors violet bleach with Clairol 20 volume developer. I covered my hair w/ plastic wrap and left it for about 1 hour and 15 min w/o heating. I rinsed my hair out, conditioned and let it dry. My hair is really light and in good condition, but extremely yellow tinted. So I went to Sally's and got Shimmer Lights shampoo and conditioner and I have used it 2 times and it seems to be helping. I want to know if my hair is light enough to use a toner, or if I should just bleach it again to go to the next level? The lady as Sallys said toner would only make the hair appear darker, but everyone seems to use a toner after bleaching in order to get rid of yellow/unnatural tones , so i'm confused about what to do next.

New postby Hyacinth » 29 Oct 2012, 09:12

I know to bleach it out first, but i wonder if there is a toner put on after to give it the specific frosted color. I know to bleach it out first, but i wonder if there is a toner put on after to give it the specific frosted color.

Just a little bit lighter than the color you want. or else it will b 2 dark. then, if its still 2 light, u can make it darker... or u could just have ur hair dresser dye over them, she won't b able 2 cover them, but if she gives u low lights darker than the highlights but lighter than ur natural hair, it will look really really good

Can unused Xerox Color Toner Cartridges be returned or recycled?

I have a bunch of unused toner, but no machine.
What should I do with it?

In most countries you can just call up Xerox Customer Service and they'll send over a courier to collect them for recycling.

Xerox and Fuji Xerox are both heavily involved in recycling and limiting waste into land fills.

If I used a toner with a 40 volume instead of 20, would it..

New postby Herman » 29 Oct 2012, 09:12

If I used a toner with a 40 volume instead of 20, would it just intensify the toner color or would it lighten?

Just making sure I am not confused. Also is this right? When using 20 volume with lightening powder (bleach) you can get the same results as if using a higher volume it will just take longer? Is there less damage with the 20 kept on for longer or is the damage the same and just depends on what color you're lightening to? Thanks if anyone can help me out!

The higher the volume of the developer the stronger the lightening power .. the lower the less invasive ... it would be best if u stuck with 20 volume .. and let the toner on ur hair for 20 min if u want a more intense color ull have to choose a more intense toner

It depends on what look you want. Ash base should be fine, neutral should be fine also. I use lightest-light-blond, but you can get ultra platinum as well. When you buy it at the beauty supply store you can ask the employees there because they can see what color your hair is, what your natural color is and help you decide what you need. But yeh... just go for whatever color you want (the boxes say what the base is).

Next time you bleach your hair you can try some red-gold corrector.

Are Laser color printers Archival quality? are the toners archival?

I want to print out some old photo's at work but I have a color laser printer, I understand that it uses toner cartridges instead of ink but what are its archival qualities? does it fade? is it acid free? Its a brother color laser.

If you want anything to be archival you will need to use acid free paper, as it is not so much the ink and remember to seal them from air.
