Is Devry University Considered A Good School?

New postby Claudia » 29 Oct 2012, 14:15

I heard that if you go to that school then it is very hard to find a job or if you want to go to graduate school you have to start all over agin. Is that true?

I don't know about finding a job, but it is true that most graduate schools will not accept DeVry degrees as legitimate bachelors degrees. It is basically a for-profit trade school. If you want to get training in some specific area of computers, it is okay, but it doesn't offer much flexibility.

As a company, would you hire someone who graduated from Devry University?

I am going to be starting at Devry University in Mesa, Arizona this year, but I want to make sure I will be able to find a career after I graduate. I will be going for my Bachelor's in Business Administration and majoring in Accounting. I want to be an Accountant someday, so I thought this would be a good start. Please let me know if you think this is a good idea.

I'm starting at devry at the end of the month. My dad runs the IT department at a decent sized company and says he always has good luck with the devry graduates that he hires. When I decided to go back to school, he told me that devry was highly regarded and by far my best choice.

Can anyone tell me if Devry University is worth enrolling in?

I am currently tossing around some ideas for my school future and Devry University has some of the degrees I'm interested in, however I would like some feedback if anyone knows a little bit about the school. Can someone help a brother out?

DeVry is a technical school, therefore, it is a for-profit school. It costs like thousands of dollars. You can get the same education for half of the price at an accredited college/university.

Hi there,

I would check and see if there is a city-wide chapter that your school is a part of. If not, then your only other options are contacting National Headquarters to find out how you can establish a chapter on your college campus *Please be mindful that this can take a long time, and can be very costly to accomplish* , If you ever decide to transfer, you can transfer to a school that has an active chapter (although I wouldn't recommend this option, especially if you are happy and content at DeVry), and your only other option is waiting until you graduate and try joining a graduate chapter.

Good luck to you!

Am I wasting my time getting a bachelors in web...

New postby Londa » 29 Oct 2012, 14:16

Am I wasting my time getting a bachelors in web information systems from Devry University ?

My eventual goal is either to run the website for a corporation or start my own websites or both. I realize that most information pertaining to web design, web development, and Internet technology is pretty easily self taught, but I have toubles in math and don't think I could obtain a computer science degree. Will I be able to compete with people that have a degree in computer science and are self taught in the fore mentioned areas ?

We had a few ITT Tech students try to enroll in a night school program at a 4 year university and they were all surprised to discover that none of their ITT Tech courses would transfer in.

So you need to realize that in a few years if you want to get a real college degree all your time at Devry will probably not transfer in. Remember that if you work for yourself a degree will not be an issue. If you work for someone else it will be.

Does Devry University allow high school students to apply?

New postby Corine » 29 Oct 2012, 14:16

I'm going into the 10th grade and i want to take a extra class outside of school and Devry University offers the classes i want to take. Will they allow a 10th grader to apply to their school?

And does anyone know how much it is for one class?

I believe that you have to be at least 17 years old to apply for the Devry University. Each applicant must have earned one of the following educational credentials from a DeVry-recognized organization: a high school diploma or equivalent, a General Educational Development (GED) certificate or a post-secondary degree. The diploma or other acceptable documentation of the applicant's educational achievement must be provided for the student's file by the end of registration unless the school grants an extension. An official transcript (or equivalent documentation) with the high school or college grade point average (GPA) and graduation date must be provided for the student's file by the end of the first semester.

The tutition at Devry for one 3 credits course is about 1600 dollars. It is a private school, therefore, their tutition is a bit higher than most traditional schools. I used to go to the Devry University when I was in the undergrad program and the professor is very professional and helpful. I think you will enjoy it.

Should I get an online masters at Devry University?

New postby Guy » 29 Oct 2012, 14:16

I graduated from management information systems. I want to do a masters and I'm looking for an online program but I am unsure if they accredited and if it is wise to do one. Devry University seems pretty flexible in let me in their IT master program and I think I can afford it. Should I go for it? Will it be recognized? Pros? Cons?

No, you should not go for it. I was in your shoes once as well. I was going to go to DeVry and get a master's in human resources. For over a year, an enrollment counselor harassed me to enroll. Even when I told her that I wanted to wait, she was still bent on getting me in ASAP and used a lot of dirty tricks in the book to do so. I took their "specialized test" and passed (real schools require GMAT scores to get in). Even if I didn't pass, they would still admit me.Two days before my first class, I decided to withdraw since I found out from other students how worthless their degree from DeVry was. And even when they I wanted to withdraw, they were still trying to keep me in. I just had to call them yesterday to stop sending me mailers.

If you want a brick and mortar alternative for an MIS degree, try these schools:

Auburn University
Bellevue University
Dallas Baptist University
Stevens Institute of Technology
Florida State University
Hodges University
Minot State University
University of Colorado at Colorado Springs
University of Oregon
Webster University

Good luck!
