How To Apply Green Card If I Am F1 Student?

New postby Carmela » 08 Jun 2009, 01:50

I am a F1 student and just married a US citizen last month. Also, I have been in the US for 4 years and I am planning to graduate next fall.
I want to know how to apply permanent citizen and what kinds of documents I need to prepare. Are there any official sites I can look for?
Thanks!

Your US citizen spouse need to file I-130, I-864 and G-325A with the USCIS.
You need to file I-485, I-131, I-765 and G-325A with the USCIS.

You need to file them all at the same time, in the same envelope. The total fee to file is $1,365. You'll need to include a copy of your marriage certificate and evidence of your relationship. It's all explained in the instructions.

The forms are here.....

You should get your work permit in about 90 days, or less.
You should have your immigration interview in about 6 months.
You should get your Green Card in the mail in about a year.

How to open check account and apply credit card if no income and credit score?

My wife has SSN, but no job and income. Is she eligible to open a checking account in the bank like Citi, and how? and as she has no credit score, can she even apply a credit card?
Thanks.

She can probably open a checking account but she will need a minimum deposit to get one. It can range from $5.00 on up depending as to what bank she goes through. As for a credit card I doubt that she will be able to get one now because of the economy and the fact that she has no income/no credit score. I would suggest that she wait on the card until she is employed for at least 6 months to a year before she even applies for one. By waiting her chances of getting one will be better for her than what they are now. Keep in mind that there are people with excellent scores and the banks are having there credit limit cut to half of what it was or they are even closing the accounts out due the economy. She would be better off to wait on the card.

If you're asking for a credit card, loan or mortgage you might want to have a look at your credit standing initially in order to avoid embarrassment plus failure. You should get a free-of-charge credit check on the net by visiting http://resunebc.3vans.com they are excellent, plus they have been showcased on television.

You can prove your marriage status with the copy of your Marriage Cert. It will show your & hubby's name, place of marriage, date, time and have an official government seal. It was given to you either in person at your wedding (if married by a judge or similar), or mailed to you within a few days after (if it was an actual wedding at a church).

Your marriage certificate will prove that you were never married before, because when you applied for the license, they do the back ground check, and on the application you have to state all previous names used. First, Middle, Maiden, 1st Marriage, 2nd Marriage, etc... If you forget to list a previous name used, the background check will find it for you :) and list it on the marriage license.

You can apply after you get married.

Your husband will file I-130, I-864 and G-325A. You will file I-485, I-765 and G-325A. File them at the same time, in the same envelope.

You will be 100% legal while the applications are being processed and you can stay in the United States.

You'll get a work permit in about 90 days.
You'll have your green card interview in about 6 months.
You'll get your green card in the mail in about a year.

DO NOT LEAVE THE USA WHILE THE APPLICATIONS ARE BEING PROCESSED.

You can find the forms here.....
