Yes you may by a domain first. It is called Parking a Domain.

Usually a domain could cost $8 to $15. Like godaddy.com.

Once you buy a domain from a domain reseller, they ask you to pay the yearlyfee, and then you will have access to the control panel right away.

Once you buy a hosting company to host your website, you need to change the DNS servers (in the Domain Control PANEL) Very easy, when you buy a host they will tell you how. And you will have a website after a couple of hours.

Some Domain Resellers allow you to place a one page for free. So you can say, Website will launch soon.

Hope I helped. If you need any questions, don't hesitate to ask. I can recommend some decent and cheap and reliable webhost/domains.

You were probably looking into a dedicated server; the prices on those suckers are sky high. Get a shared server; if you want a good recommendation I would direct you to http://www.hostrocket.com with 4.95/mo you get an insane hosting deal, even though it's shared you get unlimited space, bandwidth and e-mail functionality.

GoDaddy is good for purchasing domains for cheap, they also have economy hosting which is the basic type of hosting if you want to choose GoDaddy as your provider; but don't look into dedicated servers, they can go up to as much as 300/mo.

I have a list of over 1000 dvds that i want to sell and want to put the list on a webpage and have a check box next to the titles and then when they click buy it shows which ones they want in the basket, and i want it that when i look at the order i can see which one they want also.

You may be best buying some off the shelf software to help you build that site.

But basically you buy a domain name and then get a hosting company to host it for you. You then upload the content to the hosting company's server and the rest of the world can then see it.

Try and search for a cheap hosting compnay that offers ecommerce sites ready to go.

When you register the domain name you can select the number of years that you want to pay for. Its cheaper than you think. Here is a guide to getting started: http://www.richkahmer.com/build-a-website.html

I assume you mean Web Hosting by Webspace. (Sorry if I'm wrong)

Anyway, the Web Host will give you two DNS server names. Something like DNS1.webhost.com & DNS2.webhost.com

You have to replace the default DNS servers in the control panel of the company you bought the DOMAIN NAME from, with the ones the web host gives you.
