According to what I have heard on different forums, some clients had problems with Godaddy. Godaddy is a little cheaper in compared with other services, but take into consideration that Godaddy is not a full-featured service.

If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

They are a Multi-awarded Web Hosting which offer a Full-featured service only $6.95 a month. Their service is really perfect and uptime.

You can go there through the address below:
http://bluehost-service.atspace.com

Here I have copied and pasted its features from their website to view:

- Free Domain Forever
- 1500 Gigabyte Hosting Space
- 15000 GIGS of Transfer
- Host UNLIMITED Domains (Support All Domain Names)
- 2,500 POP/Imap Email Accounts
- SSH (Secure Shell), SSL, FTP, Stats
- CGI, Ruby (RoR), Perl, PHP, MySQL
- 2000/2002 Front Page Extensions
- Free Site Builder
- 24/7 Superb/Responsive Sales/Support
- Free Search Engine Submission

******IMPORTANT*******
* This service was awarded as the best Web Host 2008.
* If you sign up for this service you will have $100 credits to advertise your website with the google & yahoo search engines for free!

You can also try the SL hosting:

Free Domain + Hosting + Easy-To-Use Site Builder

They offer a Full-featured service only $3.95 a month. Their service is really perfect and uptime. They offer Free " Easy-To-Use Site Builder" that helps you build your web pages without difficulty if you are not skilled in using any creating website programs. (WYSIWYG: What You See Is What You Get)

You can take a look at their features at the address below:

According to my experience, StartLogic is the lowest cost service which is full-featured and really works for you.

Notice: You must pick “Personal Package”.

Good Luck!

1and1.com
Godaddy.com

The two above are your best bet and MOST reliable. I have over 400 domains / websites and 90% of them are at GoDaddy.

Here are a few coupons for GoDaddy:

.info for $1.49 - no code needed
.net for $7.99 - gdp1009q
.com for $7.49 - cjc695b2b or DNF2

Another option is to buy domains directly from the domain owners.

Additional Help:

Route 1: Domains are registered for a year at a time. To purchase a domain name a person goes to a domain register like GoDaddy.com, types in the name they want, if it is avaliable.. you can purchase it for around $10/year.

After you purchase the domain, you will need to host the domain, which is around $8-$10 a month for shared hosting.

This is the more expensive route and the route which require more ramp up time faster. The good news is both the domain register company and the hosting company normally is more than happy to help you through any process. I personally use GoDaddy.com for domain purchases and HostGator.com for domain hosting, both are very helpful.

Route 2: I would recommend starting out with blogger.com or wordpress.org. Both are very powerful blogging type sites with many options. Also, both sites also will teach you much needed steps to be able to maintain and manage a real domain.

Once you have an established blog with either of the two, you can then purchase a domain for around $10 per year and run it through blogger.com or wordpress.org for free. This option will save you the monthly hosting fee which is around $10 a month. Both sites have detailed information on how to run your blog through your domain.

If you have additional questions feel free to contact me as I own a domain company and enjoy helping others.

Yahoo has pretty good rates usually. I registered with them and have been happy with their service.
