How do I go about getting a state/court ordered Paternity test?

Do I have to go and get a lawyer or go to the welfare/medicade office in my town?

If you are the one filing the papers, and you requested sheriff service, you shouldn't see the summons. It should be sent to the sheriff's department.
If you just filed and are going to get the summons in the mail it should be about 3 or 4 days.

If you are expecting the papers to be served on you, then it should be about a week or two depending on how they are going to serve the papers. They might use a private process server or they might us a sheriff.

*These are all estimates*

You need to contact your local juvenile court clerk and ask them this question. They can probably direct you to a website where you can download the forms for your use. Also, I would ask them if they have a "pro se" resource center, where they can help those who are representing themselves to prepare court documents.

You're not going to find an answer here among the dimwits who are frequenting these boards!

Here's a link to the POP program for CA. If this doesn't help, call them!

Good luck!

Depends on the fight, for me it has been 15 years (my case is unusual, involving several states and federal court).

The average with fighting is about 3 years.

If both parties are willing it can take it, anywhere for 1 month to 6 months. Or if the other party resists but doesn't really fight then 3 months to 1 year. *These are just estimates, each case is different and it depends on the courts you go to.

Also it depends on if it is multi-state. If you are both in state, the other party will have 30 days to respond, if in another state 60 days, if another country 90 days. If the other party is in another state it can double the length of the case. Also it depends on how long it takes to get a Summons on the other party (the get personal jurisdiction). Sound complicated? That why people hire lawyers.
