I am finding that is does, but it has it's limitations. A lot of what I learned in college has been very useful and has given me a leg up on some of the situations that I have had to resolve.

I planned on using mine to get into LE administration, but so far I am still just on the front line with the rest of the tin badges. It seems you need some management and politics education too to get into the admin area of LE.

Does an on-line degree in crminal justice go as far as a normal dgree, with law enforcemant?

I am currently working overseas and want to start my education with my down time. I was considering University of Phoenix. I've heard they are accredited but i've also heard that businesses look down on online degrees. Is that the case with law enforcement agencies? Would I get just as far with an online degree as an on campass degree?

Law enforcement agencies as well as all branches of the military do not differentiate between the two types of degrees. So long as the school is nationally accredited you will be fine. U of P is a very good school, in fact, it is one of the greatest choices for those in the military or are otherwise unable to attend an in-class university. My brother happens to be a cop, and although he received his BS in a regular university setting, he received his MBA from an online school...and it carries as much weight as the alternative. Good luck in your future endeavors!

FORENSIC SCIENTIST! I am actually in Criminal Justice and it would do nothing to prepare you for the job. You need more of a science background to be a crime scene investigator, and the CJ program does not provide that for you!

You should check out this site:
http://www.kidzworld.com/site/p1724.htm

It's for kids, but it outlines the job and the expected pay as well as where you need to go to school (in Canada) to become a CSI.

Good luck!

Crminal Justice Majors?

New postby Otis » 22 Oct 2012, 23:29

What type of career can you earn with a B.S. in a criminal justice. I have an associate in criminal justice and i was going to start working on my B.S. but while i was doing some research an associates is required to become a police officer (well at least in my state IL) but other related jobs only require high school education I wanted to be a corrections officer but they only require a H.S. or ged and probation officer only make about 35k a year. I don't think I want to work for an agency that lets thier employees work with only a g.e.d. education. I feel as if working for an agency that requires thier workers to have a 4 year degree is better

Believe it or not, one of the most highly-educated agencies
in the US is the FBI. Apply there with your degree.
