First, why are you taking the class?

If it is court-ordered, check with the court.

If it is for lowering your insurance, check with your insurance company.

If it is for your employment, check with your employer.

If it is to have a ticket dismissed, check with the traffic court or agency who issued the citation.

Only they can tell you whether or not they will accept a particular course of study.

Does your insurance get reduced the same amount when you take online compared to in-class defensive driving?

And if you take online defensive driving does it matter whether it's $100 compared to $50?

Yes, the discount is the same. But before you take it, you might want to check with your ins company that it's a class the qualifies for the discount. Because some classes qualify but others don't.
