Most will work for a bonding company, and many bonding companies are backed by various insurance companies.

some privae individuals are allowed but will have to have enough resourse to back the bonds they are writing.

And no it is not the sheriff office but the court house, since the sheriff only takes the bond for the court, but it is the court that has the rules on acceptance of bonds.

If you have never been one, I would advice working for a company, to get experience on dealing and setting up rules as to who to bond and who not to.

If you are talking about being a bail enforcement agent ( they always work for a bail bondsmen)

The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* Bail Bonds 101: The Complete Guide to Owning and Operating a Successful Bail Bond Company by Sean Cook
* Bail Enforcer: The Advanced Bounty Hunter by Bob Burton
* Bounty Hunter by Bob Burton
* Modern Bounty Hunters: A Crime Fighters Training Manual by William B. McGhee

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Are there bail bondsman that do payment plans in houston texas?

I want ot bail someone out of the county jail, but htere bail is 100,000. We are only required to pay 10% but thats still 10G's. I was thinking I could find someone who might take half of that and then allow us to make payments

Maybe Texas laws do not allow for the arrangement that you propose?

In MD, I had $100K bond, 100% and I was able to give $2,500 down and pay $7,500 in installments. Have you tried bondsmen in neighboring states?
