ANY NEW YORK STATE LAWYERS OUT THERE? How can I break my lease if I am now on Social Security Disability?

Hi. Due to a head injury, I am now on Social Security Disability. It seems that this may be a permanent situation, and I can no longer afford rent at my apartment. If I do return to work, as a Teaching Assistant instead of as a Special Ed. Teacher, I will definitely not be able to afford the rent. The apartment manager has told me that I will still be responsible for the rent for the remainder of the lease, and this just doesn't seem fair in that the head injury is something that is completely out of my control.

Also, if I have attained bachelor/master's degrees in education, and can no longer work in this field due to the head injury, is it likely that student loan expenses can be reduced?

It's not what you want to hear, but, your medical condition has no legal effect on your lease.

Student loan expenses are another issue. Contact the people who have your loan about consolidation and the income contingent program.

How can I find names of lawyers in New York that will handle Civil Suits?

A friend of mine in New York was not notified of his rights a good while ago and he is having a problem with getting off parole. he is a good person and the only charge at that time was possession of a gun and he has had no police contact since then. we just need to find a good civil lawyer to speak with about this issue. at this time I rather not say alot over the internet.

Contact the state bar association in NY and request a referral for a lawyer in your area.

I hear that New York city lawyers can make over $1 million on just one case. Is that true?

If you are counsel in a big money case you can make millions. If you are just out of law school and entering the profession, good NY firms do offer high starting salaries of over $100,000 but you have to work long hours and the cost of living is very high.
