There are spinal surgery procedures, even spinal fusions, that have evolved to be labeled "minimally invasive". This generally means operations done through very small incisions, often w/endoscopes.

Two things important to know:
1. A "Minimally invasive" label on a procedure does not mean that is better, or even right, for every patient. Some patients have conditions or anatomy that just cannot be adequately treated through a scope. Surgeon training and experience are key also.
2. As technology has evolved to provide minimally invasive options, that same technology has improved to make many "open" procedures much less so....Many spinal procedures can/are done on an outpatient basis.
