Is It Worth Getting Laser Eye Surgery To Fix Eye...

Is it worth getting Laser Eye Surgery to fix eye astigmatism?

I have the glasses for astigmatism, but my sight is still blurry with them. I can't live like this.

I had bad eyesight overall and really bad astigmatism and had lasik done over a year ago.. i now have 20/20 vision and no astigmatism.. it worked for me.. i am 23 yrs old.. best decision and "investment" i have EVER made. Most lasik centers offer a free consultation.. schedule an appointment and they will check your eyes and let you know if they think lasik will correct this for you!!!

LASIK or other eye surgery for astigmatism?

New postby Rodrick » 22 Oct 2012, 01:23

I've heard mixed things about getting corrective eye surgery if you have astigmatism. I'd like to hear from people who've had this done or know someone who has, who had bad astigmatism.

Kim -
I was in your shoes 10 months ago. I had terrible astigmatism. I went in for the free evaluation that a surgeon was offering. He was confident that he could help me.

Due to my having thin corneas, he performed Epi-Lasik, instead of Lasik (only difference that you need to worry about with those is Epi-Lasik has a longer & slightly more painful recovery time and I was not able to see CLEARLY for around 3 months - I was NOT aware of THAT going in).

Point of the story is though, that I CAN see very clearly now, I think my vision is 20/15. It's so wonderful not to depend on contacts when I had been wearing them for more than half of my life!

I hope you can find a surgeon as skilled as the one I found!
Good luck to you.

Laser vision correction is able to correct farsightedness, nearsightedness, and astigmatism. So, yes.

EDIT: The correct way to state your question would be as follows: Will laser eye surgery correct astigmatism. There should not be "an" before astigmatism. That is because astigmatism is not a thing, it is a condition. Similarly you would not say "I have A diabetes." You would say "I have diabetes" because diabetes is a condition not a thing.

Laser surgery is the only way available....and even then, only if it is corneal astigmatism.
