Eye Lazer Surgery

How Long Do I Have To Wait To Get The Lazer Eye Surgery?

New postby Anjanette » 28 Oct 2012, 07:56

I really want lazer eye surgery, but my eyes WILL NOT stop changing! They get worse and worse every year! I'm hitting my 20's, am I too old?!

Most respectable Laser facilities require a few things. First, 18 is the legal age in most states because your eyes are still growing and changing up to that point. Second, they wait until you go at least one year without having a change in prescription. Lastly, the run multiple tests to ensure that you are a candidate for the procedure...some people have corneas that are too thin for the procedure. The actual average patient age for LASIK is 26...so you are not to old!!!

This is my post to the laser eye forum… (Also, at http://www.lasereyeforum.com/forum/view ... p?tid=4599)

*************************
My Experiences - Optical Express (Nottingham)

4 weeks ago I spoke to a couple of friends who had had laser surgery . They say it was the best thing they had ever done. This spurred me on, together with looking at the statistics, and 3 wks ago I went for my free consultation.

I decided I wanted to go for the full thing, Wavefront and Intralase, thus avoiding sharp instruments, and using only lasers.

My prescription was mild R+1, L+0.75, so the cost was just over £2k

I am 41, and thought to myself, "Just trust the statistics, and be brave for 5 minutes, and you will enjoy the remainder of your life more."

So, Last Friday 7/3/08 was D-day. Got to Nottingham at 3pm and after a little wait - I was called in to do triple checks regarding facts and figures, and was taken in to the operating theatre.

Lay on the bed, nervous I had to admit, but took myself off to another place, and less than 5 minutes later both eyes were done. 10 minutes after that I was in a taxi home with sunglasses on, and thinking, "Wow, I did it".

I had always wanted it done, but never been in a financial position to do so. I was also concerned about the chances of things going wrong, but my friends successes filled me with great confidence.

No grittiness, tad sore a couple of hours later, but a couple of Ibuprofen and a half-decent night's sleep, and woke up more-or-less perfect.

Have a little night-glare at the mo, and a bit of bruising on the eyeballs, but both will get better in a couple of weeks.

The cost sounds expensive, but it pays for itself over the years, in not buying glasses every couple of years.

If your frightened don't be - surgeons (in this case Mr Bal Manoj - Google him) sit at the side of God.

As a sportsman (146 at snooker, 4 over at golf) I'm just glad to have my peripheral vision back, and can't wait to get back on the golf course.

*********************************************

So I would heartily recommend it as I have perfect eyesight now.

Furthermore, they operate a "Recommend A Friend" deal at Optical Express, whereby the new customer gets £50 off the price if they quote a previous customer's details, and I would also get £50 for recommending you. Email me and I can let you have my details.

Hope all this helps.

Is lazer eye surgery permament? could i get it at 24 age years old?

I ask around. alot of doctors and people who have had it done said it lasted 20-40 years. In the civilian world someone can get it at age 30,( has to be that age) and in the military you can get it at 21, would it last just as long if i got it at 23 or 24 years old?

I had my LASIK surgery about 10 years ago. I had severe astigmatism and was really pleased with the success. I never did get 20/20 vision but close.

I am now 48 and need reading glasses, which I was told up front that I would because that is a part of the eye aging.

I know that the doctor that did my surgery waits at least until your vision is stable. I had to show him past records to show that my vision hadn't changed much during the previous number of years.

I don't think it's age so much as it's stable vision.

A person who wishes to undergo laser eye surgery may be wary of the cost. So, how much does laser eye surgery cost? Well, as you may have heard, laser eye surgery can be quite expensive. It may range from around $500 to as much as $2,500 per eye.

The cost of laser eye surgery depends on the level of correction required and the type of procedure carried out. At NewVision Laser Eye Surgery Clinics, laser surgery prices start from $1975 per eye. The cost includes all mapping, vision testing and medications related to the surgery. Post-operative visits and any enhancement procedures that may be necessary during the first 12 months are also included in the price you are quoted. At NewVision Laser Eye Surgery Clinics there are no hidden extras.

First of all you must be aware of all the potential risks...it is not a minor procedure. There are also the repurcussions you must consider; not everyone gains completely perfect vision.

Of course you need to visit an ophthalmologist..only he/she can tell you if you are an ideal candidate. It depends on the shape of your eyes, the thickness of your natural lense, if you are astigmatic or not, the amount of correction required amongst other things. He will also see if you are psychological able to go through this procedure.

Btw...its also very expensive!

I wish you all the luck :) I know how it feels sometimes, glasses are annoying, i wouldnt be able to go without my contacts.

Is lazer eye surgery safe? How long have procedures been done?

Have there been studies to show it is safe in the last 10 years and have they figured out the night vision problem.?

Peace,

It is so much more improved and safer than 20 years ago. The all-laser procedure is much better than cutting a flap with a blade.
I had it done 6 months ago and am very happy with the LASIK.

Dear Paul,
Nothing to fear. I think it would be a great birthday gift to yourself! I only caution you to make sure you know the doctors performing the surgery. In other words, DO YOUR HOMEWORK! We want you seeing correctly when it's all said and done! When you complete the surgery, I recommend you take some eyebright supplements for quicker healing. Of course, as soon as, the surgery is done, you will be seeing clearer, but with a slight haze as if you are under water with your eyes open. MAKE SURE, you go straight home and rest those eyes! DO NOT USE THEM FOR ANYTHING! So make an evening appointment so someone else can drive you home and GO TO BED! Trust me, if you don't, your eyes will feel like horrible sandpaper on the inside that you will just have to let pass over with some remedy of artificial tear drops. GET INSURANCE TOO! (just more benefits) MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THEM TO PUT THE ARTIFCIAL TEARS IN YOUR TEAR DUCTS TOO! Trust me, you'll need all the lubrication you can get. It may be slightly higher, but well worth the sight! Yes, I had the surgery and see clearly now!

Many professional bowlers (assuming they have ball contracts) generally get new bowling balls every couple of weeks. Even mid- to skilled- amateurs usually retire their "arsenal" of balls each year or two to upgrade to new models. How many times can one get laser eye surgery in a lifetime?
