Overall traditional lasik procedures still cost roughly $1,000 to $3000 to complete. If you pay less than $1,000 per eye treated, you may want to question your surgeon and verify his or her credentials. You should also see if there are hidden fees you are not aware of you may have to pay for later. When it comes to your eyes, a first and then a second opinion is best. Don't choose your surgeon on cost alone.

About £500-1200 per eye? Depending on how you want it done?

I would not go for surgery at the moment... its very dodgy.

basicaly some guy is going to zap your eyes with laser beams! They will burn out flaps in your eyes, or even use a knife to cut it.

And it is not guranteed to fix vision PLUS causes other problems.

Problems may outweigh the benefits e.g. v. dry eyes, worse night vision, severe prolonged headaches, bursts of vision loss (i.e. going blind for 2-5 seconds!!), redness of eyes, irritation, double vision.... very blurry vision, and worst, severe eye-infection that will lead to 100% blindness.

Overall, wait, not worth the risks unless you REALLY need them.

Some jobs e.g. army prohibit eye surgery for these very reasons, they may cause DAMAGE that can NEVER be repaired.

Can anyone who's had lasik corrective surgery let me...

New postby Pearline » 21 Oct 2012, 19:11

Can anyone who's had lasik corrective surgery let me know about their experience?

My eyes are bad, my glasses are thick, I can't wear contacts, and I'm ready to see clearly. I'd like to know the cost, what the procedure was like, how well you saw afterward, and any side effects you may have experienced. I'm a little frightened of the actual procedure, so insight about that is especially appreciated! Thanks!

I had Lasik over a year ago. And if I could re live it, I'd choose to do it, every single time. Its worth every penny and any fears. I wore glasses, than contacts for as long as I could remember, and it is about the most AMAZING feeling you can have, waking up the next day, opening your eyes and you can see everything. And it is just that fast, the next day you can see! The procedure itself... they put a clamp on your eye to keep it open, there's pressure, than depending on what machine and how much you're paying for the procedure, sometimes the doctors create your flap by hand, or its by machine... I had the machine do it. There's a burning smell, not unlike burning hair. Than they pull the flap back (you can see all this as its happenning) and than there's light.... than darkness. Than you feel and see the doc using almost a mini paintbrush to put the flap back down. Than its over. Simple as that. They do it one eye at a time, you're awake the whole time and its NOT painful. There's a little pressure but that's it. My clinic gave me a relaxant beforehand. Total procedure takes NO MORE than 15 minutes! Its amazing. Its scary, I cried through my whole procedure. But again, I would do it again if I had the choice. Side effects: I work with computers and only took 4 days off work after the procedure... than was back starring at the screen... so they told me thats why I had headaches for two weeks after the procedure, but that's it! The dry eye thing... I had dry eyes REALLY BAD for a whole year, a bottle of eye drops will be your new limb. But now its gone!

Is LASIK and other laser corrective surgery really safe?...

New postby Russel » 21 Oct 2012, 19:11

Is LASIK and other laser corrective surgery really safe? And how long could it really last?

My doc said about 8 years.Did he say this to discourage me? And which laser is better? Does cheap mean safe?

I've read good but mostly bad stories. To me my sight is too precious to take the chance. I can deal with the reading glasses and if eventually I need them for more than just reading so be it.

"Enhancements" (that's what you call it when you perform a Lasik procedure after the initial surgery) can be performed as often as is medically advisable. What that means is this. Every time the surgeon performs a laser surgery two things happen. The SHAPE of the eye changes so as to change your prescription. The THICKNESS of the cornea is reduced. Depending upon how thick your cornea was to begin with and how much the cornea has already been thinned it may or may not be safe to perform additional procedures. As long as there is enough thickness remaining, you can have as many enhancements as you would like. See your laser surgeon. He or she will be able to tell you how many if any enhancements are possible based upon you current corneal thickness.

It's safe but that doesn't mean it fixes all of one's sight problems. From people I know that have had it, a few have needed to wear reading glasses, while a couple of others see perfectly now.

Everyone's eyes and surgery results are different. I've not read or heard of anyone having an adverse or unsafe reaction to the surgery.

Lasik.Must have a second corrective procedure. Anyone else?

New postby Yelena » 21 Oct 2012, 19:11

I had Lasik surgery about 6 months ago and must have it done again because one eye was not corrected enough. Has anyone else had a second procedure? If so, was the second one satisfactory? Should I demand a discount?

The likelihood of needing a second procedure, the risks involved, and whether that would be a new contract, covered as completion of the first treatment, or somewhere in-between, should have been made very clear in the comprehensive paperwork your should have gone through (and signed) before the first procedure.

Something is slightly off, even if it's only poor communication, if you weren't clear on this before you had the first Lasik.

Do you still have a copy of the waivers and information sheets you were given?

A second procedure has no greater risk than the first one, assuming there is still adequate corneal thickness with which to work.

Eye corrective surgery (Lasik, Lasek, PRK)?

New postby Kirsten » 21 Oct 2012, 19:11

I have several questions about it. First of all i did some looking around and i think my eye sight is about 20/350 or so. This is based off the prescription of my contacts. can anyone confirm or correct it?
This is how it looks on the package

8.6/14.4
-3.75 -1.75 x030

I am near sighted and have an astigmatism

My second question is what is the safest type of surgery out there. I would rather do a surgery where it would take longer to heal/more pain present and have my eyes in better health that could be corrected if need be. And i am not really aiming for 20/20, more along the lines of 20/40. I keep hearing about different stuff like this new no-touch lasek or something.

I wouldn't mind still having to wear glasses for reading. Its just what i do in the rest of my day that would make no glasses alot more convenient.

Any help is appreciated
Kirsten

I had LASIK about a month ago and very happy with it. Since everybody's eyes are different, you should go for a free consultation or two. They will look at your eyes and tell you what methods are available to you, what is the cost and what you can except in the way of results. The place I went to guaranteed me 20/20 vision or my money back :)
