Lasik laser surgery

Lasik surgery, can you see the laser during surgery?

New postby Carlotta » 22 Oct 2012, 03:56

Of those of you who have had Lasik surgery, does the sedative put you out enough that you can't see the doc working the laser on your eye? I know of the procedure, just curious about the actual experience of the procedure.

The sedative will only relax you somewhat. You will be wide awake and responsive. You will be able to see the laser head above you but you will not be able to see the actual laser energy itself. You will be able to see the fixation light that is used to center the laser and track any movements your eye may make. Hope this helped.

I dont know that doc, but I had laser surgery last Sept. Best investment thus far. You are in and out in no more than 20 min, it doesn't hurt at all. What did bother me were the instruments used to pop my eyeball out. don't get scared it didn't hurt but it was a little intense. Other than that, they guaranteed 20/20 for life. They did say I might need reading glasses around my 40's just like anyone. Good luck, u will be sooo happy!

Last year i went for laser eye surgery last year and it was, to date, the best money i've ever spent.

Find a reputable doctor (it's so important to get references). Go for the necessary tests before committing to it and understand all the risks. Yes, there are risks, but it'll be completely up to you if you want to accept them.

When i went for my tests, they did a scan of my eyes to get it's topography readings. As it turned out, my cornea was too thin for the Lasic procedure (the most common practice thesedays). I had to wait about a month while my doctor consulted his colleagues on whether he could still do the procedure.

Lasic wasn't an option for me, but after my doc did a lot of communication with other doctors, he found that an older technique called PRK was a viable option. He found out about patients with similar cornea conditions who underwent that procedure, how they were doing 3 months after the surgery, 1 year after the surgery, etc.

I took the plunge in July 2005 and haven't regretted it in the least. The fact that you have to accept is that the results will not last forever; they do not prevent the natural aging process. I fully accept that my eyes will get weaker again in about 15 years, but i'm fine with it cos i'll just go for surgery again, haha. Lasic and PRK are slightly different technique and the recovery times differ, but at the end of the day, the risks and results are the same.

LASIC
They cut open a section of your cornea, use the laser, close it up again. Recovery time is something like 24 hours.

PRK
They scrape off the top layer of cells on your cornea and then use the laser. You then wear special contact lenses for 3 days while your cells grow back. Recovery time is longer than Lasic, but i was driving after 5 days.

Is LASIK and other laser corrective surgery really safe?...

New postby Krystle » 22 Oct 2012, 03:56

Is LASIK and other laser corrective surgery really safe? And how long could it really last?

My doc said about 8 years.Did he say this to discourage me? And which laser is better? Does cheap mean safe?

I've read good but mostly bad stories. To me my sight is too precious to take the chance. I can deal with the reading glasses and if eventually I need them for more than just reading so be it.

At 4.25 I would recommend getting a Lasik ... again you have to weigh the variables such as cost involved and the potential risk factors.

Are my eyes going to fall out after LASIK (laser) surgery?

New postby Bettina » 22 Oct 2012, 03:56

Well, obviously, they probably won't. LOL I scheduled my Lasik surgery and am looking forward to going glass-less in the near future! I'm excited.

However, with all the things that could go wrong, I was hoping to get some feedback from those who have had this procedure done. Did yours work? How long did it take to recover? Did anything go wrong?

Any advice or personal experiences would be helpful! Thanks!
Rabidmoth-well, it was a good thing your eyes popped out in the operating room so they probably weren't covered with hair and junk.

My eyeballs popped right out as soon as i hopped off the operating table. the doctors scrambled to pick them up, but one had already rolled underneath one of the operating beds and they had to use a broom to sweep it out. But they put em back in there and everything's been fine and dandy since.

good luck

Laser eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and Lasik surgery in India by a company called Indian Health Guru Consultants. The Price for dental and Lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Indian Health Guru Consultants is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, Lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.
