Lasik surgery, can you see the laser during surgery?

New postby Valda » 26 Oct 2012, 05:10

Of those of you who have had Lasik surgery, does the sedative put you out enough that you can't see the doc working the laser on your eye? I know of the procedure, just curious about the actual experience of the procedure.

The sedative will only relax you somewhat. You will be wide awake and responsive. You will be able to see the laser head above you but you will not be able to see the actual laser energy itself. You will be able to see the fixation light that is used to center the laser and track any movements your eye may make. Hope this helped.

I had to have the procedure done twice due to very poor vision before the surgeries
now?
worth every penny to not have to wear glasses right now

I will most likely need OTC reading glasses as I age

Should I get LASIK/LASEK laser eye surgery?

New postby Glynis » 26 Oct 2012, 05:10

I am joining the military, should I get laser eye surgery or not risk it? Since I would be issued goggles, ballistic goggles, sunglasses etc, is this defeating the object and regretably so? Thanks

I had lasik while on active duty and the army paid for it. But i am currently trying to get back on active status and because of the surgery the meps is giving me a hard time even thought the army did it, and it was at a military hospital. So i would not recommend doing it before you go in.

I dont know that doc, but I had laser surgery last Sept. Best investment thus far. You are in and out in no more than 20 min, it doesn't hurt at all. What did bother me were the instruments used to pop my eyeball out. don't get scared it didn't hurt but it was a little intense. Other than that, they guaranteed 20/20 for life. They did say I might need reading glasses around my 40's just like anyone. Good luck, u will be sooo happy!

Has anyone had laser eye surgery with LASIK PLUS Visions?

New postby Thea » 26 Oct 2012, 05:10

I am interested in any positive or negative info you may have. I am pretty knowledgeable in the process. But, was inquiring about LASIK PLUS specifically.

I am scheduling an appointment with the location on McKnight Road in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Any chance somebody has been there?

I went to the lasik plus in Richmond VA. THey seemed very knolegable and were polite. I was very impressed with their cleaniness. My eye insurance company indorces this laskic center and they even pay 1,000 dollars of the total cost. I was going to have the procedure done with them but I could not get it compltetly financed and I did not have the down payment. Even though the down payment was not much it was hard when I am paying back student loans. Althogh I did not have the surgery yet I was told by something that scares me about them a little. I was told that most of the people are not doctors. I still think that I may go back there because they are cheaper.

New postby Laveta » 26 Oct 2012, 05:10

Can someone explain the procedures for lasik?

I have heard they cut some opening in your eye before the procedure. is this true?

Lasik is performed after making a flap of cornea. Cornea is consisted of 5 layers. The outermost layer is epithelium. Before performing lasik the surgeon prepares a flap of this epithelium using an instrument called microkeratome. this flap is then raised and laser is applied to the underlying layer. This makes some injury to those layers and eventually the curvature of cornea changes to rectify your refractive error. after the procedure the corneal flap is again placed on the orginal position.

It worked great for me; but you need to discuss the risks with the doctor. Its free to go for a consultation -

I had it done about 7 years ago, and it was the best thing I've ever done for myself.
I had really bad eyesight, hated glasses, and contacts were so inconvenient.

It took a few days to meet w/ an eye specialist, who ran a whole bunch of tests. The actual surgery was done at night, so that I'd go home right away to sleep.
It didnt hurt. They used a few drops to anesthetize my eyes. I just felt a bit of pressure.

They covered my eyes in pirate-like patches and sent me home to sleep. By the time i got home, the anesthesia had worn off, so my eyes hurt a little (not too bad) and were quite watery. I still couldnt see anything, though.
The next morning, i went back to the doc, who removed the eye patches.

And I could see again! It was an amazing feeling.
If you're considering it, definitely see a specialist who can tell you more about it and get it done! It's so worth it.
