Joseph Rojas (from Seventh Day Slumber) has an incredible story.

[Part of an interview:]
"I used to be a drug addict," he says, with unflinching bluntness. "I'll be real honest with you. I had a $400 a day cocaine addiction. I remember being 13 years old and thinking about taking a gun and putting it to my head and pulling the trigger. My father left me at the age of three. My only memories of my father were him beating my mother bloody. I'd never learned how to throw a football, I was the fat kid growing up, I didn't have any fishing trip stories with my dad because I didn't have a dad. I wanted to get picked. I was the guy who was passed up for every team at school. I was never picked. I'd go home and I'd cry my eyes out and I just wanted to end my life."

How did he overcome? Read more here:

Bible Scriptures:About overcoming drug addiction?

New postby Britney » 24 Oct 2012, 13:15

Can anyone help me find really nice scriptures related to that.
or about god helping us get through tough times.

And I know the bible doesn't directly talk about illegal drug use.
but I hope you understand what I mean.

If you can't think of anything from the bible, maybe you know a poem or song lyrics.

Thanks :)

I am a Christ Follower who is both Alcoholic and a Drug Addict. Addiction is the flesh. It is not a spiritual matter other then fact that the spirit and the flesh are linked together. When I heard the truth, I was scared to say the least, but after I came to grips with reality, I received a lot of help from the Holy Spirit and have remained sober.

Addiction is not GOD's problem. We created the bondage ourselves and any honest addict will know that we went through great effort to get addicted to whatever it is. Sometimes almost killing ourselves just so we can get to that point where we could enjoy the drug.

Addiction is not a demon. It is our flesh and selfishness run riot.

We crucify the flesh. Crucifixion is very painful. GOD will help us but will do no more then an earthly parent can do. We need to take up that cross and meet the problem head on.
We do that by STARVING THE FLESH. And then replacing it with FEEDING THE SPIRIT.

You will find that everything I have said is backed up by Romans chapter 7 and 8.

We are saved from Hell by Christ finished work on the cross. We are free from addiction when we decide to kill the wretched sinner that we are and allow GOD to raise us from the dead; glorified in Christ Jesus!

Are whirlpool baths really necessary to overcome drug addiction?

I read this question about the activities included in drug treatment programs and the best answer chosen stated that patients are given whirlpool baths during the duration of the program. Are whirlpool baths really necessary? What are they for anyway?

Having baths in whirlpool tubs are really helpful to patients. Have you ever experienced bathing in a whirlpool tub? It's really relaxing. It has this massaging effect that enables you to release all the stress and worries that you've been nursing. I think the reason why whirlpool baths were added to treatment programs is because letting out all the anxiety and anguish will help the patient see the brighter side of life. A positive attitude is needed for a faster recovery.

How can I help my big brother overcome his drug addiction?

New postby Katherina » 24 Oct 2012, 13:15

My big brother is having a relationship with Mary Jane (marijuana). He knows that it's not good for him but he says he likes what it does to him so he continues to use it. The thing is, Mary Jane's really affecting his life. He's getting failing grades in school (he's really smart so I don't know how that happened) and he's getting worse at baseball. He even spends more time locked up in his room with Mary Jane than hanging out with anyone else. I think he really needs help. He's such a gifted person and I don't want his talents to go into waste. We're from Eastport, Maine.

Try to convince your big brother into entering a drug rehabilitation facility to get treatment. I'll include some sites containing list of rehab facilities near your place. A smart and athletic person like him should not be a victim of drug addiction. He has a great life ahead of him because he's smart and talented. Maybe he'll just screw it all up because of marijuana. Have you told your parents about it? I think you should. It's about time to start intervening. Do it fast!

Simply because drugs affect your brain, and your brain controlles your whole body, so literally every part and system can be affected by withdrawl, but usually with weaker drugs, it doesent take so long, for crack or heroin, i'd go to the hospital and ween of with medication.

It takes so much courage, simply because druggies for the first while can;t function well without it,

How to overcome prescription drug addiction?

New postby Kate » 24 Oct 2012, 13:15

I have been addicted to prescription pain pills for almost 2 years, and my husband has no idea. My question is how do I beat my addiction without him knowing what is happening? I love him and my family and do not want to hurt them by telling them I am an addict. I know I can overcome my addiction I just need to know what kind of withdrawl symptoms I will have and how long they will last. And if there is anything else I need to know that will make the withdrawls a lot less obvious or if there is anything over the counter that will help with the withdrawl symptoms I would be forever greatful to anyone who can help me

Depends on what the drugs..r. I came off ativan /ambien and had severe withdrawel symptoms.. it can be VERY dangerous to do it without med. help..u can have seizures, etc. I think ur husband would want to know.. he probably already does.. I was amazed at how I thought "nobody knew" and EVERYBODy knew.. There are drugs they give you to lessen the effects of the w/d but there again, not knowing what the drugs are...it's hard to say what will happen.. Remember this: it's o.k. to be a RECOVERING addict.. nobody is perfect and u have an addictive personality..a lot of people do.. just get help somehow.. u don't want to have a heart attack in front of your family while trying to DETOX.. It won't be easy but u can't do this alone.. u need someone who loves u and can help u..If u need me, write

How to overcome a perscription drug addiction?

New postby Reinaldo » 24 Oct 2012, 13:15

My boyfriend was in a serious car accident years ago and takes painkillers for his injuries. He is in excruciating pain everyday but has become dependant on his pain killers.

He believes he has become addicted to his pills.

Should he be taken off his medication? < even with the pain he is in?

Should he have his medication switched periodically to prevent addiction?

What other options do you suggest?

Duice88, Drug addiction can be extremely serious. Many everyday people have lost jobs, family, and loved ones simply because they could not beat thier drug habits. I suggest you find some help. I found a site that has addiction information and a list of addiction treatment clinics so you can help. http://www.addictionselfhelp.com

Good Luck
