I know that if you exercise 45 min a day you fall asleep 15 min faster. Your body will want to regroup itself, get more active, cut out caffeine after 5 or 6 and see if that helps. Try a new pillow, they're $5 at walmart, your parents will prob spring for it. Or at least trade you. Try that. Maybe a heavier comforter. I bout a Nautica comforter that overall weighted more than my old one. The first night I had it was the best night sleep i have ever had. I think the weight goes back to when you were a baby.

Try these if you want to fall asleep faster:

1. Exercise
Make sure you exercise enough and stay physically active. If you don't move a muscle all day long, you have too much energy left at the end of your day. Do some aerobic sports at least every other day, each lasting 30 minutes or more.

2. Stress management
Too much stress obviously help create insomnia. Make sure you are not annoyed by or concerned with anything when you are in bed. Relax yourself before going to bed. If necessary, some "soft" relaxing exercise helps. (or even moderate stretching will do)

3. Hot drink other than coffee
If possible, take a cup of hot or warm drink like skimmed milk. Avoid drinking coffee starting from six hours (or more) before you go to bed.

4. Body temperature
I advise taking a warm shower before going to bed. When you're sleeping your body temperature drops a little bit. So the shower help create that "drop" because after the shower your body is slightly "hotter". Make sure you feel a comfortable temperature at where you sleep. Too cold: add a blanket; too warm: show your bare feet or even your lower legs.

Know of any drug free ways to sleep better?

New postby Zack » 29 Oct 2012, 16:03

I can usually fall asleep within 30 mins of laying down. Occasionally it will take a little bit more than this. The problem is that I just can't stay asleep! I haven't slept through the night in over a week and I'm going nuts.

I've taken over the counter sleep aids in the past and I hate the way they make me feel in the morning. Does anyone have any drug free advice on how to sleep through the night? Is there anything at all I can do?

Well, when I can't sleep I don't pressure myself to fall asleep because we have to relax especially if we intend to change our body clock. I keep myself busy doing worthwhile activities until I feel tired and I automatically fall asleep. Drinking milk, having a shower before I sleep, listening to music helps me to relax. Avoiding having naps during day. Eating healthy foods, regular exercise could also help your body and mind to function well. I also avoid thinking about a lot of things before I sleep having a journal could also help to avoid being bothered and at least it helps me understand myself by jotting down my thoughts and my daily activities. I also pray to surrender my worries and ask for help to whatever I am facing through... For you to be able to solve your problem it is really important to know the cause then avoid or solve whatever triggers you to have a gudnyt sleep.

What are some ways to sleep better?

New postby Crystal » 29 Oct 2012, 16:03

How do you make yourself fall into a deeper sleep. I notice that sometimes I find my brain thinking about other things & its hard for me to sleep.

I can't sleep, are there any easy ways to sleep...

New postby Brenna » 29 Oct 2012, 16:03

I can't sleep, are there any easy ways to sleep better that are inexpensive?

It's not that I can't stay asleep, I can't get too sleep. I've tried music, Reading, excercise, all that stuff. I'm stressed, and I have major ear ringing and I get headaches because when I'm not paying attention to anything, I think too much, and I think it's because my brain is too active that I can't sleep. Opinions/solutions please.

I use biofeedback.Concentrate on a single body part and begin thinking the word RELAX.As you move along from body part to body part try not to move.I usually start at my toes and by the time I get to my stomach I am almost asleep.By focusing on your body and repeating relax over and over your brain will become less active.

Are there any other ways to help myself sleep better?

New postby Wes » 29 Oct 2012, 16:03

I haven't slept well in at least a month. I will go 2-4 days with minimal or minimal or no sleep, and then crash for about 12 hours. I can be physically exhausted, and still unable to sleep. The sleep I do manage to get isn't restful, and I'm trying to make medication a last resort. I've tried music, silence, meditation, vitamins, temperature variations, positions, and even where I sleep, but all to no avail. Do you guys have any other ideas that will help? Thanks in advance!

First, this may sound really silly, but I always fall asleep easier when I'm not trying hard to sleep. Letting my mind wander always helps.
What do you do during the day? If it is something monotonous such as working at a computer or something, I'd understand how you'd have trouble sleeping.
Exercise vigorously, or do manual labor of whatever kind you can manage! The tiredest I have ever been and the best I have ever slept is when I was running in the morning and evening, giving myself a good hard workout, and chasing after kids and doing chores all day in between. Cut all the caffeine and unneeded sugar out of your diet...I know you said you tried temperature variations, but I always get sleepy when the room is a tiny bit warmer than it needs to be...put on a movie you've seen a million times and turn the volume way down low...read a book that is a little bit heavy reading and read it laying down...never fails to make my eyes droop. :) I have heard that foods like turkey and milk are natural sleep inducers...maybe make yourself a hearty sandwich and eat it right before bed? Full tummy also makes me sleepy. Of course I am 19 weeks pregnant right now so i am ALWAYS sleepy...but I know that sleepless feeling. Good luck! Hope you get some rest!!

Any ways to get better sleep?

New postby Irvin » 29 Oct 2012, 16:03

I usually get good sleep 3 out of 7 days of the week. Sometimes less. I was wondering if there are any methods to sleeping better so that I can have more energy throughout the day and be less tired. I don't go to sleep late though. I usually go to bed at 10pm and have to wake up at 6:45am.

Don't eat anything heavy past dinner. Maybe a LIGHT snack. Don't watch the TV NEWS - it's too depressing. Flip your mattress over. If it gets warped or 'bowed' on one side, then a good nite's rest is not always possible. Flip the mattress over so it will level out to get a restful nite's sleep. Start getting up one hour early every morning & take a BRISK 30 minute walk - then - do the same thing again in the evening after dinner. Within 90 days you will see a noticeable difference.

Honestly, I used to do a work out or dance, then shower or bath, then straight off to bed. Your body gets worn, cleaned, and passes out rather quickly once laying in bed. Especially if you take a nice hot bath.
