Is There Any Accredited Online Social Work Programs?

New postby Clarice » 29 Oct 2012, 10:01

Im looking for an online school that might offer social work undergrad. But all the ones I see are either scams or are not properly accredited to sit for the exam. Does anyone know if there is any or are they all scams?
thanks
It must fall in the cswe accreditation.
Thank you

I did a search on the Peterson's site. I chose the online courses advanced search. Selected major: social work. Selected degree: undergrad/bachelor's.

Here's the result:

At this time there is only one fully accredited online program in social work at that is at the University of FL. There may be programs in OH that do distance education (part of which may be online). If a program is accredted by CSWE (see cswe.org for a listing of all accredited programs) then it would be elligible for state licencing (in any state). At this time there is usually no accrediteation issues for the LPC. Most counseling programs are not accredited in the same way that social work programs are. DA

There is only one at this time and that is Florida State. Canyon College will come up in some searches but it is a degree mill and not accredited on any level. DA

The only school that has an accredited MSW program is Florida State University (and it may only be an advanced standing program). The warning from the last poster is good to heed. Watch out for Canyon College which is an unaccredited school and program offering a BSW and MSW degree. DA

Does anyone know of any accredited colleges that offer a MSW (master's of social work)?

It appears i left out a crucial word. i really wanted accredited online colleges that offer a MSW. I currently work for Child Protective Services as an investigator and want to get my MSW to further my career. Being in the field already limits the amount of time i can spend going to class, and also the hours I can go to class as i work late a lot. Does anyone know of anything?

You can search for accredited MSW programs at www.cswe.org (the accrediting body for social work). There over over 120 accredited MSW programs, so searching by state is usually a good way to start. DA

Additional Info: There is only one accredited program that offers and online MSW and that is through FL state. http://ssw.fsu.edu/index.php?clickLink= ... s-overview

However it is only for advanced standing and has some limits on locations. So it may not be a perfect fit.

There are some other programs that might work for you that have somewhat non-traditional options. Smith College does 3month intensive in residence and 9 month internship.

Most schools have a part time option you may wish to check this out.

You should check to see if your state participates in a Title IVE program which is designed to aid in the professionalizaiton of child welfare staff. If so your dept will have a relationship with the school of social work at your local university. In some cases they will give you time from work to work on this degree and you will be able to do a paid internship. This would be your best bet.

If you search online you will find Canyon College...STAY AWAY. It is a degree mill that is unaccredted as a college and in social work.
