Question about Neuro-linguistic programming?

New postby Carlotta » 28 Nov 2009, 17:45

I cannot understand the concept of "anchor''. Please define it in simple words for me.

An anchor is a conditioned response. Remember Pavlov the scientist who trained dogs? He would ring the bell just as he was about to feed them. After a while I found that he could just ring the bell and the dogs would salivate.

The sound of the bell in this case is an anchor.

Or think of smells. you know sometimes you smell something that takes you back in time? Like if I smell wooden floor polish I immediately think of the gym in my high school

The smell of floor polish is an anchor.

Any smell, taste, sound, image or touch can be an anchor. Even words are anchors.

You can use anchors deliberately. Say you wanted to be able to feel relaxed and calm any time you wanted to.

Sit down and remember a time that you felt calm and relaxed. See what you saw, hear what you heard and feel what you felt at that time. As you begin to feel really calm and relaxed simply squeeze the knuckle on one finger, just as the feeling peaks.

Do this a couple of times and then test. squeeze your knuckle and you will find yourself feeling calm and relaxed again.

Easy!!

Good luck with practising your NLP techniques.

Have you ever used Neuro-Linguistic Programming?

New postby Chere » 28 Nov 2009, 17:45

What were your results? Do you believe that NLP really works?
I'm interested in trying to learn it.
I was just wondering if it is worth my time!
OH! And I don't want to have to *pay* psycho-amounts of money to learn it. I only have a part-time job and have two kids. I believe in paying someone for their time. but not for the 'privilege' of learning.

I saw a demonstration by an instructor that was certified in that technique. To me it looked like watered down hypnotism, and depended heavily on the power of suggestion.

I guess if people are susceptible it will work for them.

That instructor quit his pursuit of a PhD in order to joint a cult that practiced faith healing. So much for his stated belief in "evidence based practice".
