Any fax machine will do. The way a fax machine works is basically the same way your phone works, it dials a number using tones, then when connected (somebody answers) it starts communicating ("talking") to the fax machine on the other end by sending a series of tones, these tones tell the other fax machine "hey hows it going, I have to give you something, ready? okay start writing."
The only thing you may need to be concerned about is if you have the right connection to send faxes, some ip phones will "back-feed" the other phone outlets in the house and therefore when sending a fax it'll need to be hooked up directly to the modem to send and your other phones will be disabled while doing that, others will merely be an "access" point where all the phone-lines run through it and then you'd just need to plug in the fax and away you go.
Check with Vonage to see if you need to do anything "special" to the modem to allow data transfer from a fax to go through, usually you don't.

Yes.

If you and the person you are sending and receiving the Fax with both have accounts with InPhonex (free to open accounts and place IP-IP calls between customers).

You both must have an ATA that uses G.711u/a codec.

For more info on InPhonex and other services, visit my web site: CQ VoIP Call (or find link in my profile).

POP and SMTP addresses for input to faxing over the internet.?

I noticed an option in Winfax for sending faxes over the internet, yet yahoo.com makes it so difficult to find the mail settings that I don't even use Outlook!

Can I fax with an all-in-one over cable internet?

New postby Therese » 28 Oct 2012, 02:28

If I buy a regular all-in-one printer and hook it up via usb to my computer, can I then fax via the internet? I do not have a phone line that works anymore, as I use voip.
Also could I received faxes? and if so how would I figure out the number, or would I have to ask comcast for a second # ?

Thanks
Therese

1) No
2) Maybe
3) Home Number or 2nd number either/or

Faxing over VoIP is sometimes a problem due to "lossy" codecs. Analog (old phone line) is still best for faxing

You can read more about it here.
