Can I get into an online/distant learning college with a low SAT score?

I'm a mostly A student, except for math, but I bombed the SAT. I did take the essay section, so I got an average of 500 for that. Critical reading was 410 and math was 330 (yikes!). It was a really hard test. Some of the words were, like, way above my head. I feel so dumb! I studied for it, but it didn't help any. I wrote two adventure books and and want to go to an online college for English Composition, and maybe nutrition.

Try one of the open universities like Athabasca University. (www.athabascau.ca). They take anyone who is willing to learn regardless of their academic qualifications. Whether you pass/fail is up to you.

I got my degree from them. They are fully-accredited and will take students from around the world. Just check out their website and see what they have to offer. By the way, their course fees include textbooks.

Do you think for someone with visual learning style that online college will be much better than regular?

I am going to do online classes but i have audio processing disorder and visual learning style and i think someone like me will be better at online classes than a regular class. that's becuase online class has lots of talking and online has it all online.

A combination might be best for most people. I took a few what they used to call distance learning classes but mostly went. When you are in college you know other people studying the same thing to bounce ideas off of.
Online degrees don't have the same degree of respect as in person degrees.

Usually anyone can go to CC when they turn 16 but just call the admissions department to check. I know homeschoolers do not need anything special, but high schoolers might need permission from the public school.

Pros for online:
1. Very few (if any) trips to the college
2. You set your own hours for studying or "attending", even the middle of the night when you can't sleep.
3. No one hears your belly rumbling b/c you forgot to eat breakfast (happened many times to me)

Cons for online:
1. Honestly, the online courses I've had were in many ways MORE difficult than in-class courses. It took alot more time out of my day to do these classes, and it was way more writing or computer usage.
2. You don't have a teacher there for immediate input or questions (and rephrasing questions until you understand what they are saying).
3. Even with a book in front of you, you don't get a free pass on the tests - they still require thought and diligence in finding the answers.

Review your goals, personal and professional. Make sure that the school that you are going to offers the programs that match your goals. Do not settle. There are many programs that are similar, but you have to make the ultimate decision. Do not let be based on finances and length of program, but the fact that when you are finished or near finished you will be able to assume your proper place in the career field sought.

You should market yourself and not the degree or university. There are many traditional universities offering degrees that can be earned through online methods. Look at that if you are truly concerned with the name of the school. Good luck on your search!

It is difficult to say what the best colleges are online or on campus as there are a large number of factors that need to be considered. What is more important is finding the right college for you and your needs (tuition, schedule, reputation by potential employers). This site has some good information on regionally accredited online degrees and some colleges for you to consider:

Good Luck!
