Can you take just a Vegetarian cooking program in Culinary Schools?

I'm interested in going to Culinary school, but I'm a vegetarian and don't have a desire to prepare meat, is there an option to just learn vegetarian cooking in culinary school?

There are programs just for vegetarian cooking and some of the top cooking schools do offer similar programs. Keep in mind however that not having the ability to work in every station in a kitchen may limit where you can be hired and what you can do. You will basically be limited to working in vegetarian only establishments, so depending on what your goals are long term this could either be perfect for you or make things extremely challanging!

Are there any vegetarian culinary schools.?

This is a little off from the question but i am a sophmore and ive always aspired to be a chef and although i may not have developed a good sense of reality yet, im sure that is what i want to do. ive been presented with some obstacles that i would like to find out about early. first, are there vegetarian culinary schools and are any well rated. second. my parents are typical strict asian parents who absolutely refuse to pay for culinary school. they will only pay for college. then they proceed to lecture me on the terrible success rates of chefs and how im going to end up in mcdonalds. i looking into just finding a way to pay for culinary school myself. my parents would disown me but could i be sucessful and what is the probability that would would happen.

Google vegetarian or vegan culinary programs.

vegetarian and organic restaurants are very trendy and popular especially in cities (probably only in cities so you'd have to live there for work).

I'd say before you plop down $30K a year for culinary school (a lot of the schools don't have good financial aid so you'd get loans), try some free or low cost culinary classes at your community college or ROP program (sometimes high schools have a free day-release program with the community college so you'll get high school credit for the class too, usually called Running Start)

yes your parents are right about the risky prospects in this career (they want you to be a doctor right?) a lot of chefs end up making $20K a year and work their butts off like a doctor would, in a hot kitchen to boot. Ever watch Hell's Kitchen?

Sure you could strike it big like Wolfgang Puck or become a personal chef for Oprah, but it's like in the fashion world, what are the odds of that really? You have to have great passion and risk tolerance.

If you're entrepreneurial, I'd open a veggie restaurant in some hippy town on the west coast or in Austin. The vegan scene will probably be a niche market for a long time especially in bad economic times like now, so it will be hard to find a well paying job in a large restaurant. Do you know of a veggie restaurant that has more than 1-3 employees? That's how hard it will be to find a job in that. Most people just open a little cafe in a college town, if you can find the money for it!
