How Can I Find A Dedicated Server To Host A Game?

New postby Alejandrina » 29 Oct 2012, 01:44

I'm trying to find a way to host a game online for other people to play, and I have heard I need a dedicated server to do so. I am not very familiar with how this works, so could someone please advise me on what to do? Thank you for the help!

You will be given root access to the server and you can upload your applications to your server. A dedicated server account usually allows you more bandwidth and CPU usage than a shared hosting account. You will not have the same restriction like when you are on shared server.

If you need a recommendation for a dedicated hosting that does not suck, try http://hostingsthatsuck.com/serverpronto-sucks/

Yes, you can. You can also host the DNS servers from your home if you like. You're going to need plenty of bandwidth though. Standard DSL or cable will still run rather slow. If you have any questions about linux or setting up the apache webserver feel free to email me.

Yes, if you are just starting out i wouldn't pay for hosting, you can get it very cheap, and with good rates. The place im hosted with is http://isoworld.0lx.net/ (bannerless)

I have spent countless days searching for and trying out hosts, so bieleve me, they are the best. My game site is hosted there..... http://isoworld.info

oh and by the way you can pretty much put any type of file up at godaddy.com its just that they have ads at the top of the page for free hosting, but they do have a lot of space for you.

As far as I know, The Planet and EV1 (now The Planet) along with SoftLayer and Fast Servers.net I would say are the biggest and the best in the industry.

Take a look at www.webhostingtalk.com and look in the Dedicated Hosting section. It's a VERY active forum and I'm sure you'll find your answer just by searching!

If you want to use shared web hosting services for your website, take a look at: http://www.threehosts.com/business
There you can reach the three reputable companies that are leaders in the E-commerce web hosting industry. They fulfill all your requirements to sell online. By using each of them, everything you need for your business website is provided in one eCommerce Hosting Package.
If you intend to use a dedicated service, go to: http://www.goldpuma.com . Their dedicated web hosting plans provide all features needed for a successful online business. They have a really great offer & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them. Their service is really great and easy to use.

Being professional, reliable and responsive are key factors to deciding where to have your dedicated server hosted. I have several clients using 1 &1 Internet Hosting and their experience has been very good, esp. when they run into issues that require customer assistance. Right now, there is a promotion for 50% off for dedicated server hosting:

You would not really need a server to hold a LAN party.

If you wish to supply a internet connection to all then you would need a broadband connection to a broadband modem and connect that to a router. I would then connect the router to 4 or 5 multi port switches like the D-Link - DES-1024D - 24-Port 10/100 Rackmountable Switch.

From there you can plug in the computers or a few access points if you want to add wireless capabilities also, or you can use a wireless router if you dont want to get extra access points..

Here are some suggested products and prices.

Wired Router: D-Link - DI-LB604 - 4-Port Cable/DLS Dual WAN Load Balancing Router @$115.00

Wireless Router: D-Link / RangeBooster N 650 / DIR-635 / 300Mbps / 802.11n (Draft-N) / 4-Port / Cable/DSL Wireless Router @$120.00

Switch: D-Link - DES-1024D - 24-Port 10/100 Rackmountable Switch @$70.00 each

Wireless Access Point: D-Link / DWL-7100AP / 108Mbps / 802.11a/b/g / Wireless Access @120.00 each
