What's a good stock market trading website for a beginner.?

I'm basically interested in the markets as a small investor. The sort of thing i'm looking for is the best sites that teach the fundamentals about trading the markets and how to ensure i have a well diversified portfolio.

Any sort of tips on other products to look at other that shares & bonds would also be welcome.

I would also appreciate any information about best free sites with good current information about the state of the investment world & global economy.

Standard and Poors publishes valuable information on stocks including on many a quality rating, A+ being the best. Many if not most on line brokers provide the S&P data sheets on stocks as part of their service. TDAmeritrade also provide the weekly news letter from S&P called "Outlook". Periodically, Outlook publishes suggested porfolios that are very helpful such as a small/mid-cap growth portfolio, a platinum portfolio, a ETF portfolio, total return portfolio, and I do not know how many others.

For small investors, mutual funds, either open end or closed end can provide valuable diversity of investments. The trick is as in picking stocks to pick the right ones. Many are not too good, but about 30% are worth considering, especially those that invest in somewhat obcure areas such as India, China, small cap stocks, etc.

T D Ameritrade's website is very informative & easy to navigate. Their cost for trades is also pretty reasonable at 9.99 per . You can find cheaper, but I think they have exceptional customer service.

If you are single....28% federal bracket is 72k to 150k. So, that is your top bracket. Obviously on the money UNDER 72k, you'll be paying a lower %% of tax.
Arizona top bracket is a hair over 5% i believe.

And re your first answerer saying 50%...we haven't had a 50% bracket for individuals since before Jimmy Carter....so, I would consider that information SLIGHTLY dated....

All you have to do is pick up your local paper and read. Your paper will have a business section, read through it every day. Look up inforamation on companies you've found on the internet. I also suggest Mad Money, it's a great show and the host Jim Cramer usually knows what he's talking about.

It really depends on the length of your trade.

Some trades run through the day - then the trade could be fully technical or fully based on news.

Other trades can run through months - just letting the trade run with the profits. With that you would be using both technical as well as fundamental to plot out an exit plan as the stock moves to become even more profitable.

In my opinion, behavioural aspects of the markets are all represented in the charts.

Darklord, making profit from market is not a childs play. A computer program can never do the job for you if you do not have any idea of the market. I gurantee. Most of them will tell you later that you did not have enough money to trade, etc. (Obviously they will help you nicely if you have the idea how market moves).

In spite of that if any company claims for a sure profit to a newbie, I am ready to buy their program but they have to make a legal agreement with me how much monthly return I will get from purchasing their software.

I'm interested in trading in the stock market. I've always had a passion for business, and I finally want to start trading stocks.

I only have a little less than $1,000 aside to invest. What should I do, and where should I start? Any suggestions would greatly help.

Research the stock market and stock trading.

A good website is www.investors.com.
Go to the website, locate the "How To Invest" section on the left side of the screen, and click on "Investor's Corner".
When that screen comes up click on "View Archive". Read the articles in the archive.

Another good website is www.investopedia.com

When you are ready to start trading stock open an online brokerage account with a firm such as Scottrade.

Excellent trading platforms (very user friendly).
Excellent research sources.
Excellent customer service (over 350 Branch offices nationwide).
Member of SIPC (Securities Investor Protection Corporation).
Account protection in excess of SIPC.
$500.00 minimum to open an account.
$7.00 online trading commission for stock over $1.00 a share.
